(Please, can a moderator make this a sticky?) When posting LSL scripts on the forums, please use the PHP tags. These tags will keep indenting, use a monospaced font, and will perform syntax highlighting on your script. The result is much, much easier for the rest of us to read. Example: [*PHP] //This is a comment [*/PHP] Remove the asterisks, and you get: //This is a comment
If you are posting non-LSL data, such as a notecard, please use the CODE tags. These tags will keep indentation and use a monospaced font. [*CODE] Notecard line 0. [*/CODE] Remove the asterisks, and you get: Notecard line 0.

Not to take the wind out of your sails *but* this is old news. while many people don't know about all the features of the forums, they learn quickly.

No, no. This is helpful. Made me roll my eyes when I posted that nice, neat, indented code and it was all hosed up when I read it. Very frustrating. The code still works though. Can see your point there.

It might get a sticky if it was just one link placed into another post. A post with lots of other things about the forums and how to use them.

I posted this information in the main sticky, so this thread may once again fall back into the abyss of the Archive.

PHP tags in posting have no effect?
07-22-2007 13:27
Re this posting above: /54/67/62640/1.html"When posting LSL scripts on the forums, please use the PHP tags. These tags will keep indenting, use a monospaced font, and will perform syntax highlighting on your script." is it just me, or does all this extra coding have absolutely no effect on anyone else's screen either?????? I'm in Firefox, where it doesn't do any of the functions mentioned above, just adds unnecessary clutter to the script (ducks!)

Yes Chaz, it's been broken for a couple of months as per the ANNOUNCEMENT thread near the top of the forum. We hope it will get fixed eventually so most of us still post code this way. Strife wrote a greasemonkey script that emulates much of the vB code in the meantime, get it here: /327/b2/188445/1.html

From: Anti Antonelli Yes Chaz, it's been broken for a couple of months as per the ANNOUNCEMENT thread near the top of the forum. Its not broken. It's been deliberately turned off and left off for no good reason at all other than the "Tao of Linden" allows LL employees to start a project and then just drop it when they no longer feel like working on it.

See also . In lieu of greasemonkey, much the same effect can be obtained by pretending to Quote the posting, which will at least indent the tagged source. (Not that any of this is acceptable, but it slightly mitigates the temptation to go on a murderous rampage. Well, for most of us. So far.)

whoops. LOL anti! i have to confess i've barely noticed it because the blue blends in with everything else. And I guess the acronym BBCode didn't really register with me; don't know what it means. (I'm one of those rare computer people who isn't embarrassed to say, I dunno what an acronym means.)

Chaz, I just re-read my post and your reply and I want to clarify that I didn't mean for my all-caps ANNOUNCEMENT to indicate impatient irritable shouting or something like that, it was just my poor attempt at emulating the bold font in the announcement link Sorry if that came off wrong.
