Why do they call it "Gaming" when it actually is Gambling? That is the confusing point to me. It is as if that they hide behind actual facts or definitions. To me, gaming is fun, it is with friends and there is no money involved at all. Gambling, on the other hand, is money out of purse and sometimes it comes back, most of the time, purse is much lighter than from the beginning.

A while ago, when LL called in the FBI to "consult" with, they almost imediately banned certain words from the classified ads, such as "casino" and "gambling", hence, "gaming" quickly became the word of choice for those advertising casinos.

Speaking of definitions, look at #3 on http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game 3. a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators. Poker, blackjack, etc are all casino games. |

millions in losses for owners? anyone stupid enough to run a casino in second life deserves to be separated from his money. If these so called "casino business owners" really want to run online casino, why don't they start their own online casino. Find an IP that will host you, I'm sure there are tons of gambling game software out there so that you can put up an online casino in no time. Then you are in charge!
Of course, you will then learn to deal with you local laws, and have to pay taxes on your profits. But hey, you thought you would get a free ride forever in SL. TOUGH LUCK LOOSER! Good riddance. _____________________

"Gaming" is a common usage, as in "Nevada Gaming Commission" which is a state government agency. You can find it at http://gaming.nv.gov/. However, I think LL has done the right thing for now. Without some kind of in-world equivalent of the Commission, there is no way to protect the rights of consumers. I don't gamble when the house is against me, although I do enjoy playing with friends. My mind is too mathematical to accept the odds. I know that there were casinos in SL who tried to emulate the legal RL version, and I'm sorry they are out of business. But, overall, if gambling couldn't be properly regulated, it did need to be banned. I still remember when Tringo came out and covered the landscape, and the oldbies were upset that the look and mood of SL had been ruined by it. That's ironic... Gaming will someday be back in a virtual world, when the proper regulatory infrastructure is possible. I would not think that this can happen anytime soon in SL. Meanwhile, I believe SL is large enough to survive all these economic shocks. RL has shocks too, and possibly economies need them. _____________________
