From: someone When this takes at least 2 hours every day between chosing the course, planning, contacting the model, actually driving, taking the pics and posting the, it becomes commercially disadvantageous, compared to other advertising methods such as metaadverse. If i wanted to advertise i would sure do something less time and energy consuming. Maybe you should try to rediscover the pleasure of doing things just for fun No need to get defensive, I heartily applaud any and all forms of advertising that anyone can sneak into this commerce-allergenic game. Go for it. It's cool. I do a lot of things for fun in the game, you don't know me. As for metaadverse, I have a notion that it is interesting to test advertising only in the game and see if it aids the immersive experience and sales or not. And I didn't get past all the metaadverse steps. Just to have a jpeg or something, they asked for the UI number of a photo, something that was difficult to find and then when found, not intuitive as to upload, and I just gave up, too many steps.

From: Torley Torgeson Shiryu, w00t! Thanks for sharing your journeys across the gridverse. What times are you doing this at?
It depends, normally i do it in my afternoon, as soon as i get out of work (this means late morning or ealry afternoon SL time), so there is not too many people around and the lag is low This leaves me plenty time to upload the pictures and write the report and then to give my day/night a productive twist

do I smell a race?

Cool deal. Maybe we should have a race, seems lonely driving all those sims alone. How about the first SL race? Wouldn't be a profit generating thing of course but I still think many would be intrested in perticipating. Just a thought

The reason why i do this alone is because unfortunately the more people/vehichles the more laggy the place will be, and since i am gonna face some very laggy sims that would probably take out all the fun. Moreover i dont really go very fast, i stop at every nice build to take pictures and all It's more of a sightseeing trip thanj everything else Honestly i don't think SL is ready to host real racing events for now, mostly because even with a very small number of racers, add even a small audience and you already bogged a normally fast sim to an undriveable halt. I still hold my hopes up for Havoc 2. Maybe when they implement it races will be something more than a dream @Dana: at least now i know who is the owner of that cute face

I've always wanted to have a giant road-race in SL...
but then I remember lag.

That's actually one of my main dreams for the future of SL, but yes, that is only for the future...

Round 3
03-11-2005 12:58
ROUND 3 - PART 1 Race Queen of the Day 3 - Brit Wishbringer A naive gaze to die for Shortly after sunrise I am in Ontario, at the crossroads i passed during yesterday's leg, ready to start a new round of this road trip. Brit is there as well to wish me good luck. Today's course is the longest I've driven so far, starting in Ontario i will proceed east beyond the bridge in Ulverston to the intersection in Mowri, where I'll turn north-east on a road i know particularly well, since it's where i learned to drive in SL there, when the lag was still acceptable. The first trait of this road will be the most difficult of the leg, due to heavy lag, but according to my prediction the situation will become better towards the goal in Coniston This one im Yelas is the second fairchang shop i see in about 200 meters... Pituca probably likes this road a whole lot This building features a quite well made industrial style... ... and after a few seconds I encounter another nice ancient style build in McFee. I eventually cross the bridge between Whinlatter and Ulverston, with the ship shaped casino in the background... ... And soon turn right on the intersection in Mowry.

ROUND 3 - PART 2 The lag begins to be terrible as i drive trough a densely commercial zone, in Grizedale, with one of my favourite malls on the background. I always liked the style of the building. In Ravenglass i encounter a nice car store build on a parking lot. In seascale i cross a long wooden bridge... is that King Kong down there in the water? The lag begins to be much better as i shift up and jump down a slope, the engine sound pitches up, ready to unleash all it's power. In Waterhead i meed a linden owned building... wonder what is it's purpose... I stop for a quick pause in front of the beautiful Hidden Lakes Telehub in waterhead, a further sign of the gerat attention with wich tghe lindens shaped and decorated this group of sims. A few minutes later i am speeding again down the bridge between Waterhead and Hawkshead In Derwent a beautiful park appears on my left... ... And as the speed builds up i soon get in sight of the goal in Coniston. Another leg is done, but tomorrow the lag will be much worse, will i manage to drive trough it? Stay tuned and you will know!

Round 4
03-12-2005 13:16
ROUND 4 - PART 1 Race Queen of the Day 4 - Katanablade Anubis Sharp as a blade, and just as beautiful Even today the time for departure comes as soon as the sun rises, and Katanablade is ready and waiting in Mowry After departing from Mowry i'll have to face one of the sharpest turns in SL, in Mare, then i will proceed beyond the bridge in pierce and the intersection in Bishop. After that ill turn westwards at the intersection in Clarksburg and will skim the limit with the snow sims until the goal at the dead end in Crescent. Unfortunately lag won't be nice today, since the zone is densely populated, but I won't let it discourage me. After a few seconds i see a cute tent lost in a patch of trees on my left in Selby... I shift down at the tight turn in Mare and break suddenly pushing my car in oversteer to hold the wheels firmly glued to the asphalt... ... Looks like someone built a small roadside bar there. In Garrison i speed beyond the back of a massive mall, Nexus Nash did a great job with it's architecture. A few seconds later i shift up despite the lag as i pass the stone bridge in Pierce.

ROUND 4 - PART 3 When i reach bishop i'm greeted by a lot of small beautiful gardens... ... And by some big mmmh... flowers at the crossroads. Just after the intersection in Clarksburg i find myself in front of promenade, partly hidden by a lot of luxurious plants. A small pause in the parking of an opulent looking villa in Hookton, as behind me a face off takes place between my Supra and a Mercedes: Japan vs Germany... good match. I enter Shelter as i speed behind a cute japanese style house... ... and finally get in sight of the goal! Another leg is done, despite the ugly lag and the road in half decent conditions. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Stay tuned!

Round 5
03-13-2005 15:11
ROUND 5 - PART 1 Race Queen of the Day 5 - Bree Pennyfeather Love those red bangs ^_^ After transporting the car to the very north of the grid i am ready for departure, as Bree wishes me good luck. Today the lag will be quite grim, since we are on one of the oldest group of sims of the whole grid. I'm scheduled for departure from Tenjin at the dead end of the northern highway system, this whole landmass is actually a big island archipelago so i expect many bridges to cross. The road (actually a big highway) is broad and in good conditions, even if the lag won't sure make this leg easy. After departure i will proceed in a long straight until the crossroads in Hotei, where i will turn left, then will turn right at the intersection in Benten since the road on the left brings to a dead end. Will drive beyond the crossroads in Raiden (that will be the start of tomorrow's leg) and will turn right at the Y in Yamato that will lead me to the goal at the crossroads in Gama. Immediately after departure i see a nice industrial build on my left, called Tenjin Waterworks. A few second later in Uba, immediately before passing in Fujin, the situation becomes suddenly grim, some broken roadblocks and warning signs signal that the bridge in front of me is out of order... I need to take a decision quick... I push hard on the gas pedal and shift-up to 6th as the engine roars in it's steel cage. I speed up on the broken ramp of the bridge and suddenly feel a sensation of void as the wheels loose their grip on the reassuring asphalt for the frightening leap... It's been a wild bet and it seems i managed to win it, as the Supra flies in the air like a crossbow bolt. As i feel the gravity grab my car and pull it towards the water a big bump shakes the springs as the wheels bite the asphalt on the other side... Phew!

ROUND 5 - PART 2 The Second Life Land Management did me a very bad joke, but i swiftly regain control. The car responds correctly and seems to be undamaged as i reduce the speed a bit to counter the lag and the GOM financial building in Shinda appears on my right. Shortly after i enter Hotei and i find myself surrounded by the Gotha of car making in second life, Cereal Milk's and SteveR Wiplash' shops on both sides, wow! A few seconds later i turn left on the crossroads in Kojin, When i reach Raiden i am welcomed by an odd pairing between a japanese garden and a Madcat Mech... Soon i pass the Y in Yamato as i turn right towards the goal, speeding beyond a cute marketplace on my right... ... And as soon as i reach Gama i get in sight of the goal... Broken bridges and terrible lag didn't stop me today, but the trip is far from finished, how will tomorrow be? Stay tuned!

I admit i had to do it twice, first time to take the pics stopping the car with edit in several position and second time to actually do it A bit too difficult to control the car, pray and take snapshots at the same time

Round 6
03-15-2005 12:29
ROUND 6 - PART 1 Race Queen of the Day 6 - Daphne Molinari She looks tuff as much as she looks cute ^_^ After a day of break i'm ready to start round 6, in the same sim that was the goal of round 5. Daphne is already waiting for me in front f Cerucial Creations... maybe she was shopping? Today's leg is quite simple. I will depart from Gama and head north to the intersection in Fudo, where i will head north-west until the crossroads in Koleamoku. There i will turn right and proceed in acircular path all around the continent until i will get back to the goal at the same crossroads in Koleamoku. The road should bein decent contitions, but the main problem will be the lag, that will probably be quite grim for the whole trip... ... In fact it hits me badly at the intersection in Fudo, where i have to really fight with the steer to keep the car in the road. In Baku i notice that some people really really would need to get a life... ... And after i get attacked by the usual "cyber terrorist since 2004" that bombards my car with particles for some good 5 minutes trying to lag me to hell, i shrug and move on, entering one of the best looking sims on the grid: Koleamoku, where Wisper Patel (in my opinion one of the best creatives in SL, I have many of her wonderful bonsai in my office) seems to be planning to share some of her skill with everyone else. A few seconds later i am greeted by Wisper's beautiful gardens that definately enrich the sight... too bad she has to bear some horribly rude neightbors... But as much as i proceed in Koleamoku the grief disappears, soothed by the bautifullness of the environment there, a great sim decorated by some great gardens and builds that blend perfectly into the environment... ... and in Poliahu i can enjoy this nice seaside view.

ROUND 6 - PART 2 As i reach the northern corner of the continent for a second i begin to think i ended up in Abbots, but i finally understand that i am at a club called Easy Street... ... The whole place is designed to be a vehichle heaven, even the interior of the club is fully driveable... truly a nice idea. Here i am as i take a quick break near a nicely designed Mustang. Another nice garden in Manua... ... And immediately after i am faced by some gothic buildings in Ku. The whole zone seems to be decorated by nice small gardens, like this one in Apukohai... I eventually reach Koleamoku again, surrounded by beautiful gardens and countryside homes... ... And soon get in sight of the goal. And even today's leg is done, after all the road was decently driveable, and after entering Koleamoku the environment was really a pleasure to see. Stay tuned!
