I just ordered a Wacom Graphire 4x5 and it doesn't come until Thursday, but a friend told me about Corel Painter so I played around with it a bit today. I'm left-handed and use a right-handed mouse, so the tablet will make it much easier to draw. Here is my free-hand portrait of said friend. I thought everyone could post their digital portraits and give me motivation!

Good luck with your artistic career! There's a fairly strong demand for artwork of people's characters, and Lindens makes for a very convenient payment method. I am looking forward to seeing what you can do with your Wacom :)

You're going to love it! I haven't used a mouse in years, and I now use an Intuos 3. :) I've never used Corel Painter, but I do have a copy of ArtRage 2 (http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html) which someone mentioned was similar.

I do custom characters
07-03-2006 15:47
I hope this fits the request of this thread.
I do custom characters, I do not have a freehand tablet.
So I use a 3d modeling program and a studio program and
PS. Roughly in that order, since avs are fairly easy they are only
3000L, if you want it from an actual pic of yourself (which is much more time consuming) they start at 5000L.
Considering the amount of time they take (AV character alone
takes at least 2 hours) and you get the original files to save
to disk and get proffessionally printed poster or silkscreen it is a very reasonable price.
Increased size and higher resolution files can me emailed to you.
I only ask request you do not resell and leave my sig on them.

The original files would enable you to get the pics printed or silkscreened on your own, Not included with the above deal.

Oops, bad wording. ;)

Wow --- lol --- this is clearly out of my league. The best I can do is create stick figure and I even have a hard time doing that. I think I'm going to stick with programming :)

I'm not so good with my tablet yet.

See? Even my avatar in the picture is shocked and horrified at the way she looks. ;)

You guys all make very sweet stuff!!

Here is one of the 1st self-portrait I made with my tablet... Most of the time I draw for SL, not just for fun (sadly :/) so I don't really have anything else new. Here it is anyways!!

What program did you use there, the lines look dodging?

Hello moo,

This could be another technique of developing character portraits for SL.
This self portrait is done using wireframe view (debug menu on, ctrl shift r)
I take a screen shot of the subject in wireframe and then, from the exact same position and angle, another of the subject in normal view.

Now, bringing these two shots into Photoshop I create layers and manipulate them to give this "illustrated" look.

Here are other examples of this technique:"Wireframe Art "

Photoshop CS2... but I like to mix effects so you have many filters used in the "dodged" beige parts... The rest, the colored part, is strictly tablet + normal brush tho.

Oh and Sinatra, that looks quite rad!

I haven't done one of Van yet. I really should!
In the meantime, here's a different Cyberpunk Princess of mine, an original character named Valis (yeah, I have a penchant for V names, I guess). The bluehaired guy is Icarus, and I did this a long time ago (November 2004):

Around the same time I did a picture of a friend, Trey.

And last fall I did this (first-life) self-portrait.
