Had a look at this thread, since I'm posting in one beside it....

WOW!

Very impressive portrait work. I'm a PSP noob, and I can't imagine how you get results like this....

There should be a gallery here of all of these wonderful pictures in Umber... maybe with those picture-changing screens, but not the ones that flip through the images harshly and so brusquely, as that would be inelegant. I've seen picturechangers that are very gradual and fade between portraits.

why dont you make a flash movie of the pics fading thru and then play the movie in Umber?

EDIT:... LOL forgot to say that the pic is great!!

a few tips?

Torrid,
Would you mind sharing a few of the amazing tips that you employed in Photoshop to create these? Not that I could ever recreate anything so stunning, but it's fun to dream....

Hugs, Baccara

Sorry I took so long replying! Well, I used a few tips Nephilaine gave a long time ago as my base (using Photoshop). I duplicate the layer, desaturate to around 75, and then go to Image->Adjustments->Levels and drag the slider to the right until you see the color start to deepen. After that I go to the blending mode on the layers tab (the drop down box) and choose which I prefer, sometimes soft light or overlay. Just play around and decide what you like. After I do that I go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur and set it to 1.0. This is also another area where you decide exactly the look you want with more or less blur. So that is where I start with my pictures (thanks again to Nephilaine for tips).

After that it's basically playing around with lighting and shadows, maybe a little painting here and there. I *try* to shadow in areas where it looks most natural, unless I'm going for something dramatic or outside the norm. I may use a little paint (matching the skintone) to soften some areas. The fun thing about doing pictures is there's not really a set wrong or right and it's all about the direction you want to take. When it comes to filters I kind of go by the rule that less is more, you can go overboard and lose the subject of the picture all together.

Hope that helps and thanks for all the comments everyone! :) Hopefully we'll have some kind of gallery planned for the new Midnight City because all of us have dabbed in pictures here and there.

Beautiful images, I love them both. I had a go at doing something similar for a portrait my avatar and was very pleased with the results.

Here's my attempt (no way near as good but still working on it):

Thanks for sharing the tips!

Hahah... But here's what I got so far. Needs some more work I think, but all in all it was really fun. Thanks ^^ :p
