I've been working hard to make all these Mario sprites in Second Life, and I was wondering if I actually opened a store with these, would people actually be interested in buying them for, maybe, L$10 per sprite? I guess they'd make awesome decorations, but I wish I could find a way for them not to take up so many prims. After I finish Mario, I'll move on to Zelda and Metroid.

LOLEX that's classique! Not sure what methods are you using but have you already considered reducing the primminess by ah, replacing areas of the same color with less prims? For example, a Goomba's forehead (that sounded odd) could have a single larger square instead of mini-squares. I'm also thinkin' that making them flat textures is out of the question too, hrmmm?

I was thinking of having multiple prims of the same color as one prim, I guess I can start doing that.
One other thing -- When the sun shines on the sprites, the colors brighten and they look really messed up because the colors are different. there's no way to prevent that, is there?

I've never seen a way, but one thing ya can test is set them to be LIGHT objects. They'll glow in the dark and see if that gives 'em any more consistency.

Okay, I'll try that next time I get on the computer that actually has the graphic settings set so there's sunlight. I hate this computer >.< but the other one is occupied...

Additionally you may want to test with Local Lighting on and off, check to make sure Debug menu is on and then use Mouse Moves Sun to manually turn it to night to see how the sprites look at different times of day, should give you a good idea.

Use the shortcut of Ctrl-Alt-D. Then, after selecting Mouse Moves Sun with an X, go into Mouselook, and jiggle the mouse up and down in the sky. You'll see YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER THE HEAVENS! When the sun is positioned where you want, leave Mouselook. Wait a few seconds for changes to take place. This is clientside so you won't be interrupting others.

Actually I don't need to go through that...I just logged on to find out that the sun made my Mario weird-colored, so I changed the material to light and it seems to work. Thanks a lot, I'll get to work on reducing the prims now. =)

Those are very well done! It must be painstaking to work wiith prims like that though.
Have you considered making each sprite 1 prim, and using a texture instead? Then you could use the texture with a Particle generator, animate the texture, etc.

if you'd rather not make a zillion light material prims for lag reasons and such, just use, for example, a brown texture instead of tinting a prim brown. i discovered this a few months back when trying to make prim hair that wasn't black match my base hair. light reflects differently (correctly) from a colored texture than it does from an untextured prim tinted the same color.

Oh, and by the way..

You don't need local lighting on to notice the difference in materials when it comes to light. Even when local lighting is off, "light" object will still be unshaded, no matter the time of day. I, personally, have local lighting off all the time. I've convinced myself that it's garbage, along with a bunch of other higher end gfx features of SL. However, in reality, it's a hardware problem. [editted to add] Btw, Coadey... Making it a 1 prim, textured sprite would, quite simply, defeat the purpose of making the sprite... Anyone can take a block of wood and slap a sprite texture on it. I'd have to say that primming them out is almost artistic-- it's complicated, and takes a bit of strategy.

Do you think I could sell some stuff at your place until I have enough money to buy my own land? I'm sure I'll visit often, though, when I have enough money, but for now I need a place to sell so I can get money.

Yeah, it seems you like classic things icluding Mario, and I like Mario including classic things. I could totally make cool textures for walls and floor that look like things from SMB or Zelda, and the store in general is wonderful. Awesome job.

My policy as regards selling on my property is that as long as you're selling classic gaming merchandise, you can do so at no cost. I wholeheartedly recommend that you sell at TMK whether you have land or not; I'm happy to bring more gamers into the fold and broaden our offerings a bit. Good luck to you in your endeavors! I'm always happy when another person contributes to TMK. Please feel free to contact me in-world at your next convenience. Oh, and in case you aren't aware: My property will be celebrating its grand re-opening this coming Friday, September 9th at 8PM. I'll be releasing more content at that time. Hope you can make it! (You too Torley )

OMG the Mushroom Kingdom is still here and renovated, that's awesome... it's cool how Salazar Jack was custodian in your absence, Goodwrench, and now you're back! A lot of amazing stuff I've seen in SL has never survived past a few months but this is a really rare (pixellated) bird, long live the Mushroom Kingdom! I wonder if we'll ever be able to run something MAMElike within SL...

Sorry I haven't replied in a while, my account glitched up and was disabled for a time. I'll try to get to you in-game so I can set something up in TMK.
Oh, darn...>.< it appears I have been busted.
Someone found out and reported to the Second Life staff that I am only thirteen years old, and I was moved to Teen Second Life. Oh, what a way to ruin a good game...
Teen second Life is a disgrace to the Second Life community. There is one Sandbox and it's some weapon testing thing, the most popular place has like 1,000 Traffic, none of the models are good and people have no courtesy for others...at least I'll be able to model well compared to others, and my shop will be visited often. I hope.

Hah...actually, I have a good plan.
Teen second life is less populated so it probably has a smaller grid, right? This means less people will be good at modelling, which means if I turn out to get decent at modelling, I'll have a lot of visits at my shop. It's too bad Teen SL is only up from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Oh yeah, Goodwrench, I am going to have the most unique shop in Second Life, it's just too bad you can't visit it. =( When you walk in, the first thing noticeable that ANYTHING you can see is purchaseable in the shop including the wall decorations, and even the walls and floors! There will be a warp pipe you can jump into, and when you do, you'll fall underground to shop for all of Mario's Underground items! Even after that, you can go into another warp pipe to go even farther down to shop underwater for all the Underwater items! Up on the roof will be another section where Mario's Castle items can be purchased. Eventually, I'll also feature videos of me speed-running through levels of Super Mario Bros.
