Poser 3 poses problems

Hi,

I am not sure if anyone will be able to advise me on this one. I have a copy of Poser 3 (yes i know they are up to 7 now):) The thing with this is I got a book for 3 and want to work through some of the examples they have in there. I was all excitement when all the elements came together. Book and software.

The problem is that with 3 there seems to be some kind of memory problem where if you have more than 1GB of memory it acts as if there is none at all. This was in a post I saw in a different forum. The solution that had been given that person was to remove the memory manually til the software worked. Didn't seem much of a solution to me to be honest.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do to get the software working, or even another direction that I can look in.

Thanks

Correct file type with Poser 3

To be honest I am so green with this, I don't know if Poser 3 does BVH files. I shall look in the book. The conclusion that I have been helped towards by Live Help is I can't get Poser 3 to work on my machine no how, without the physical removal of memory. Ho hum. I will check in the book about file types though.

Yes, you can do bvh files from Poser 3. Check this post for details. /52/1a/69663/1.html#post760281

The memory bit is a mystery. I'm running in on XP with 768Meg, and a G3 with 368M.
Check around for the updates to 3. They are still around.

Hi, I had this "generic memory" problem with Poser 4 too. Modern machines have too much memory for the older Poser apps.

Sorry, I didn't save the web address where I found the free fix, but if you Google something like "Poser+generic memory", you'll find the site. Follow the instructions, and you should be fine.

Basically, you'll need to unzip the supplied app, put 2 free files from it into your Poser 3 application folder. One is an exe which you'll rename to fit your Poser version, and the other is a dll. Change any shortcuts to point to the new exe file and, if you had an uncle, his name would almost certainly be Bob.

Happy Posing!

PS: Just found you can get the generic memory problem fix AND the Poser3 update from the same place:

You'll need both installed to make and upload bvhs suitable for SL.
