You give us the UV's so we can make clothes. You even give us royalty-free basic textures. You give us basic free builds to play with and pretty much everything you need to get started making things...
Now that we have animations, we need some starter downloads. For this we'd need 2 things: the male and female poser models LL used to animate the avatars in SL.
Why?
I've painstakingly animated the penan shodan katas from Shorin Ryu karate. The finished katas were GOING to be ONE of my entries in the New Moves for a New World contest. However, when I went to do a test upload after working about half-way from the first draft, I realized that it wasn't going to work. Even on the low-rez poser 2 models, I couldn't animate my AV in SL the same as I could in Poser. Which led to much frustration as it seems either SL models are even more simple than the poser2 lo rez models or the naming conventions for the bones are completely different in many cases. I also noticed that SL will allow certain bones to animate one way (ie: torso can bend back n forth, but can't tilt side to side or anything else).
I think the best way to avoid this frustration is to give the SL community access to the models used in SL so that we may learn the limits of animation without all the headaches.
Just 2 cents. Thanks.

When I do my Poser animations, I take full advantage of the more sophisiticated model, changing things that SL doesn't support, such as hand types. This is in the hope that SL supports the more advanced models in the future. While a limited model would help with current designs, I would prefer an update of their AVs to match the Poser 2 Hi figure myself. Also, because this is related to a similar thread, I thought I would cross post: Both hi and lo casual male Poser 2 models have been placed for download on my website for those who are missing them in their Poser distribution. ~Ulrika~

Why you're welcome! Although technically you shouldn't thank me yet. We're having a bit of trouble getting them to work. Hopefully in a day or two all the kinks will be worked out.

Nothing stopping others out there from 'filling the gap'
Thats what we did when we founded the dollar store -- after 1.3 folks notices that the 'starter items' were no longer that good for starting players -- so a people came together and provided..
Maybe some anim savvy people could come to the fore on this too.
Siggy.

If you'd like to help Windows users solve the missing Poser 2 model problem, the thread with the current progress can be found here. It sounds like they are getting close. ~Ulrika~

Even the hi or lo poser 2 models aren't fully compatible with the SL models. I use lo-res poser2 models as I hear from most animators that they are the most compatible. Well... they are the most compatible, but they still aren't really all that close to fully compatible. The only way to get fully compatible anims is to get the poser models that LL uses.

I totally agree, there are rotation issues too, the SL model or the importer (whichever is the culprit) dont seem to be able to support certain 180 degree rotations, such as the arm pointing downwards being raised to be pointing upward i.e. raising your hand.
In my case it is starting out in that position. Ive become very frustrated at the discrepancies and have let animation take a backseat while I work on my scripted objects
