I want to get into SL animation, and my budget is such that I need to balance the desirability of features against the extra cost of them. I do not know enough about animation programs to be able to read specs for a program and know which program to get.
I'll explain...
Even though I know I can get Poser 5 on eBay for $60 less than the cost of the academic version of Poser 6, I would consider buying Poser 6 if I knew that there are features in poser 6 that make it a worthwhile investment.
For example, are there any new features in Poser 6 that help make it easier and faster to create animations. Are there predefined sub-animations that you can string together somehow? That sort of thing.
Does anyone out there with experience in both versions have any words of wisdom for me? Thanks in advance!

There are no features in Poser 6 that make it worth choosing over Poser 5 for SL, unless the price is close - if you can get Poser 5 at a significant discount than buy it.

I have to agree with Cristiano. It isn't worth the extra cash to snatch up P6 when P5 will do the job admirably.

From: Luci Sullivan I have to agree with Cristiano. It isn't worth the extra cash to snatch up P6 when P5 will do the job admirably. Same here. If your intention is to strictly create SL animations, you probably be using less than 1% of Poser's (v 5 or 6) capabilities.

You can even download Poser 5 as a bittorrent for free. Err, uhm. Nevermind.

Cristiano is right for windows. But Mac (and the latest OS) users have no choice. That's why I upgraded it.
