Anyone else notice that the hip issue from December are back? Where you move the hips and the legs are to stay put but they move with the hips?

I'm seeing something like this; in fact, it seems worse than it was in December. Basically, I'm seeing those "wandering feet" again, a problem I thought had been solved six months ago.

I made a few stands for AOs, and I didn't touch the hips at all in most of them. And yet my legs abruptly shift about a meter as the animation plays, as if the hips were shifting. What's more odd is that I don't see this in every loop of the animation. I thought perhaps it was because I hadn't changed any of the hip values in frame 2, but that's never been a problem before.

Anyway, I'm happy to send a sample file or two somewhere if it would help.

Must be moved

the problem you may be having could be due to SL's upload protocols, and such. In the wiki you learn that if a joint is not moved, no matter what priority you set, it will be animated by the default animations. You often see this in poses where the head turns. I would try moving the hip at least 2 degrees in any of the three rotations.

The problem is that Second Life handles .bvh like a two year old kiddie handles a chocolate cookie.

1. That would not change my issues. For the past two years I've started each animation from the same file that is configured to my avatar (especially the arms) and every single body part is moved in frame 2 by at least 1 degree with every paramater. Has worked fine for 2 years, other animations work fine, but a simple hip tilt to shift weight to another leg, brings one leg flying away from the body then slowly back into place.

2. This is the exact same upload issue that we found 1/12/05 that was fixed by 27/1/06. As per this thread

3. If someone says they are doing the same thing as they've done before, chances are its not a typical answer to the problem. I watched his animations tonight and this was not the issue.

I have sent an email to Philip detailing what I've noticed. Who knows if that will lead anywhere.

As for how SL treats BVH, don't get me started on that one. LL hasn't changed the way it deals with animations, no matter how many times we asked for them since they gave us the option in 1.4. If they aren't going to fix them, why the bloody hell do they have to break them?!

Oh!

And I thought it was just me :) I had a similar issue, but not with the legs, but both legs and arms... which only happened in one case... but not others! It was impossible for me to understand what was wrong with that specific animation, others seemed to work fine.

The solution? Well, I manually edited the BVH file, went to the first frame on the list, and changed all parameters slightly — but manually :)

It worked ... :)

im very happy that SL is finally able to upload bvh files and preserve the name of the file. I have hundreds of animations in my inventory with names like ''(, *;&,", etc Just makes me wonder what else its doing or not doing with bvh files, because animations never really look exactly the way the bvh file calls for, even with 'standard' avatars.
