1.1 is on the regular download page, on the bottom right where beta grid viewers used to be.

No, the version there is 1.1.2 which is the one with the fatal failures. I'd like to reinstall the previous version.

1.2 is a new viewer branch, it is NOT the same version as 1.1.2.
For old versions of second life viewers, try http://tinyurl.com/qsaljr - Snowglobe is at the bottom. |

My problem with Snowglobe is texture-related too...sometimes, it's gray system clothing layers on avatars. Mostly, it is textures called up on screen from inventory, or given by another person, refuse to open at all.

All the best in creating this AWW Mars. It is an ambitious undertaking - and one clearly only able to be undertaken by a decent-sized company or one with reasonable venture or private capital backing. I hope the company you are Director of, V-Innovate, has such backing; as it was only registered 4 months ago I am presuming that this work is a spin-off from work you have done earlier. For those of you who want to see something more of the ECO-Grids AWM Mars has mentioned you may like to visit www.v-innovate.com which has some very nice screenshots, and there are some even nicer pics at AWM Mars's Associaton of Virtual Worlds page - http://network.associationofvirtualworlds.com/profile/AWMMars. In the meantime I am hopeful that Snowglobe and Philip Rosedale's move back into development will bring about a lot of the promised improvements. I just spotted this and another post that followed. Sorry I didn't reply beforehand, it's been kind of busy here ![]() Quickly answering the other post, 6-10 years.. lol.. no. We have completed the proof of concept. We have acheived high levels of security with text and voice communications between users. We are completing the moderation controls. Gaining the VAT registeration has taken forever, much longer than anticipated. We have introduced another plan 'Pay As You Go' (more about that when the website goes live shortly). Merchant ID and CC payment systems are now in place. What seems like a gazillion forms, T&C, SLA, Contracts, H&S, Annual Reports, Company Reports, CashFlow Forecaster and of course the first document we created, the Business Plan, are all complete. We are 20 strong at the moment and growing. What we are doing has attracted some of the most talented and commited professionals, I have ever had the pleasure to work with. All this, stemed from my first encounter with a Virtual Environment some 10 years ago, so yes, you are very right, this past 6(ish) months is the culmination of something that started a longtime ago. When I first got interested in producing solutions for business, I was creating virtual buildings from proposed plans, so the user could get a 'feel' for the place. It proved very successful, as clients were able to make changes at a very low cost, based upon greater senses of what all those lines meant on a flat drawing, once they came to life. A couple of years later, I hooked up to the internet and found my first online Virtual Environment.. I have not looked back since. We are also working on a series of modular processes, that can be plugged into our wrapper process that is hosted in a standard internet webrowser, that allows the user to transparently roam between platforms and take content with them (permissions allowable). Taking your identity, which includes your chosen name and even the avatar, is a goal we are striving for. We know a lot of the mechanisms, protocols and techniques, but getting some of the other platform developers to let go of the strings and allow 'their' avatars etc to be free, is not easy. We have currently had successes in doing a lot of this between a couple of 'popular' platforms. There will be some interesting developments starting next year, in the graphics arena that will open up a lot of possibilities for collaboration between platforms, we are working on utilising those already. So... now you want to know when you can start to see some of this... My position with the company, as Director, I am responsible for technical, financial and the Visionary for the Board. Content creation is under marketing... They tell me we will have a publically available demo environment ready towards the end of this month. At that time, the website that lies behind the simple front page currently available, will become live. The demo environment will be one module of an ever growing environment, this will begin its growth in the next few months. Along with other platforms being developed alongside, where we can begin the proof of concept for transparently roaming between platforms. This process will also grow as we add more and more platforms. The demo environment is a collection of rooms. Our first spearhead is within the ECO-Grids, to produce secure business meeting space utilising a Virtual Environment. This single environment can be utilised to create many instances, within each secure instance, we can place known users, whereby they will all have secure text and voip communications. Other modules such as file sharing, html surface rendering, webcam and presentation media, will all be incorporated within the secure shell. Other modules such as direct powerpoint, document and spreadsheet rendering will become available in the near future. The ECO-Grids will also serve Education, where user participation will have to be verified, not just at login stage, but throughout the presentation, giving students accreditation. Where direct security is less important (public access) for presentations, seminars and exposa's etc. We currently have 2 platforms offering very large environments that can support 1,000's of concurrent users. These will be coming online later this year. Our goal is to have these up and running by early January, so they can be used for the ECO seminars being held in Copenhagen (RL), giving internet users access via standard browers, to a Virtual Environment representation of the RL seminars, all the materials, media etc will be streamed in both directions, and we are aiming for 'live' 2 way communications. I hope this offers you some indication of what is happening. Obviously, keeping a eye on our website, will reveal more as it becomes available. Before anyone shouts 'Are you compeditors of SL', the answer is NO. We are offering services that compliment SL, we invite a lot of the Clients/Companies/Corps/Education that we network with in SL, to use the 'tools' that they have expressed a need for, and as a Full Solution Provider, we can supply. However, next year, we intend to release the ETHOS-Grids. Being social and entertainment based, this maybe considered to be in direct competition. But you would be wrong. Our business plan is to develop the means for a multitude of platforms to work together, not simply create yet another platform, we are developing a modular process. _____________________

Pity. SL needs competition. Competition can be measured by how users perceive it. Blue Mars is seen as competition by some, but not by others. If you are a socalite, Blue Mars may have more to offer you.. a builder, it offers virtually nothing. Our goals are to offer users the ability to purchase and use 'prefabricated' interactive mesh objects, or to create their own using 3rd party programmes such as Blender, 3DMax, etc etc and port them into the environments through our dynamic conversion tools. Prim building is considered too crude for vector based platforms, especially ones that can script meshes, apply physics, bump mapping etc... SL will maintain its niche. LL are planning 'meshes', albeit they are dead and should be considered sculpties really. Shadows are on their way... Get over 100 people on a sim with stability, and they may have a greater future. Porting between multiple platforms, along with your avatar and identity, may secure that future. _____________________

Competition can be measured by how users perceive it. ![]() The market I'm interested in is virtual worlds, 3d environments that are built from inside by the people in them, not from the outside by people who have no idea what it's like to be a user. That's where I want to see competition. There's at least a dozen of the other kind of 3d environment, adding more won't challenge LL to improve the things that really matter. _____________________

That's where I want to see competition. There's at least a dozen of the other kind of 3d environment, adding more won't challenge LL to improve the things that really matter. Prim building can be somewhat limiting. In SL it takes a lot of patience to create things using prims. In vector/mesh based environments you can do so much more and bring things to life. Adding a 'building' platform the ilks of 3DMax or Maya into a user client, is akin to driving your car while its being towed. However, our goal is users can use a wide variety of 3D creation programmes and pass the output through our process and bring it into a 3D environment, in much the same way you upload an image. The problem being, just by knowing the answer to an equation, dosen't give you all the permutations of the question. OpenSim is one of the platforms we made some stage successes porting objects between platforms (prim to vector, vector to prim). Knowing some of what is happening in the graphics world in the near future, is a good driving force. _____________________

Argent.. one of the biggest comments by users is that the Client is too heavy weight.. its like having MS Office open to write a quick note. LL have seen this and will respond shortly with a cutdown version of the client, removing the building interface etc etc.
Creating meshes, applying scripts, bump maps, UV maps etc etc is not a good idea within a browser pluggin that renders the environment... when there are far superior and dedicated programmes available to do that, then simply upload your creation directly into the environment, locate it, fix it and start using it. SL's client cannot be a master of all trades.. nor must it try to, it will only succeed in becoming a jack of trades. _____________________

Argent.. one of the biggest comments by users is that the Client is too heavy weight.. its like having MS Office open to write a quick note. On the other hand, I don't use outlook to read email. It's too "heavy weight" for me. But it is very popular, as are other similarly heavy tools. And in business I find that most people just use MS Word or MS Excel to create "quick notes" without worrying about how "heavy weight" they are. I've sent someone an email asking for two IP addresses, and gotten back a word document containing an embedded Excel spreadsheet. I've asked for a list of names and gotten a PowerPoint document back. People might complain about it, but when it comes down to it they don't care about "heavy weight tools". On the gripping hand, the SL client code for the editing tools isn't what makes it "heavy weight", it's the rendering engine and everything that goes along with it. The Blue Mars client doesn't have editing tools, and it's orders of magnitude bigger. _____________________

I've been using Snowglobe for quite a while, since 1.1.2. However, tonight I learned a shortcut for aligning prims and it only works in the regular LL viewer and in Emerald -- I haven't tried other 3rd party ones yet. Basically, if I want the X position value on prim-b to match prim-a, I used to always copy/pa
ste. Tonight someone showed me how to do it faster by simply left clicking into the x-position box in the edit window of prim-a, right click on prim-b and simply hit enter - instant paste into prim-b's x-position. Does anyone know if this was intentionally left out of Snowglobe? I was not sure what to even search Jira on. _____________________
