I'm not asking for optically correct curved mirrors, so what's the point in bringing lenses up.

Hmm, mirrors are giving me a problem
this pic will explain:

The white prims on that truck, are supposed to be shiny, but obviously, on my machine, dynamic reflections dont seem to work on prims, but on water only

First, what YOU are asking for is not the sole determinant of what things should be brought up. If you just want to see what you want brought up, you might consider creating a notecard and not giving it to anyone else.

I edited my post immediately after making it and added a winky face to make sure the humor impaired would grasp that it was a jest. I would have thought that was sufficient.

I'd love to have lenses. They wouldn't need to be optically correct either.

That is what i'm having trouble with too. Objects lose shiny all together.

I remember making huge bubbles when we had shiny transparent back in preview grid v1.9. I think eltee or michi probably still have snapshots of how nice things looked in that preview version. Too bad LL removed all that stuff. The shaders rocked.

I'm usually around, although i've been spending a lot of time in EQ2 and vanguard lately. Needed a long vacation from SL because of all the damn griefers i gota deal with and all. ;p

I'm starting to think the whole GF 6000 line was a big mistake. I couldn't get good quality from the new vanguard game since it's UI wouldn't render right. Now SL gets mirrors that don't work. I had to get a NGO modified driver just to run vanguard (didn't help with SL). If i was to get a newer card, i would need to buy a new motherboard and CPU since none of the newer video cards are AGP compatible, and thats all my 1 year old PC supports. I'm not made of money. I try to keep my upgrades affordable.

The sad thing is my oldest PC uses the 5200 and runs vanguard perfectly with the normal drivers. I am not alone either. The vanguard forums had a few topics where people were having the exact same problem with the exact same card line. So what I'm trying to say is i wish to hell i didn't buy this thing. If it's this unsupported then why the hell did they make it? BTW The PC running the 5200 has the same problem rendering mirrors... So i believe the mirrors aren't designed for older cards.

I notice that if i enable reflective surfaces, disable them real quick, they work for like 10 seconds then drop. I know the mirrors/shadows are still in testing, and shouldn't be something to complain about. I also know LL's lack of support. Their either gona pull it out completely at the last minute like they did to the v1.9 shaders, or their gona go ahead and dump this broken feature on us like they usually do.

I don't know if this is of any value but Tom's Hardware appears to have a current review of new AGP cards at http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/02/01/agp-platform-analysis/page2.html .

Mirrors don't work.

I just tried reflection in the latest First Look (58390) and RenderSynamicReflections is using such a low resolution cube map that it's less shiny than shiny is. :(

I'd just upgraded my comp and was looking forward to seeing reflections and like Argent says, they're back in league with shiny. Granted you can tell where the sun is in the sky and see the corners of the sky reflected but I was hoping for the mirror-like reflection of the previous version.

You can always pull an older First Look out of your trash.

Yeah, I tried that, seems like dynamic reflections (as mirrors) don't like me and none of the old First Look viewers worked for me. This new shiny+ dynamic reflection is growing on me, shame we seem to be moving away from having mirrors though.

I hope this isn't the way they intend to keep it, it's a very dull looking shiny.

Nod. I'm not sure I see any advantage to the new shiny. It doesn't actually look any better and it hurts frame rate.

I'm not seeing even that much detail, but even if it was that good I would have to say "don't bother with it".
