Hey, there is this time issue that really screws me up here. So these are my questions:
What is GMT?
What time is the Forum following?
What time are the IMs following?
What time is blog.secondlife.com following?
I know to some these may seem silly or simple questions…but really you would think there could be one time for everything SL…blog…web…Forum… IMs.
Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

GMT: Greenwich Mean Time, English standard for the so called "0 Timezone" You can change the forum time into your own timezone in User CP. IM's follow PDT or Pacific Daylight Time (I hope lol) the blog follows the same time.

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is the time in Greenwich England, which is recognized as a Universal Standard Time Reference. I believe it started with British Sailing Ships needing a standard reference.

The Forum default is GMT I believe, but you can set that to reflect your local time.
The in Game IM, Blo and SL in general use SL time, which is US Pacific Standard /Daylight Time, since LL is Headqurtered in California.

GMT is where time starts and ends, everything else is an offset from there.

So, Second Life time is GMT -8.

East Coast USA is GMT -5.

10pm GMT is 5pm EST and 2PM PST/SLT.

The UK is not "8 hours ahead", you are 8 hours behind.

SLT, or Second Life Time, also follows the Pacific time zone. Second Life also follows the US daylight savings times. This means that at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March we move ahead 1 hour and revert to standard time on the first Sunday in November.

It is suppose to mean GREENWICH MEAN TIME which the best I can figure it is 3:00 am . But Linden goes by Pacific time which is three hours behind EST, 2 behind CST, and 1 behind PST.

If it is 11 here then it is 8 Linden time in CA.

If it went done at 10 EST then is it 7 PCT. or SL time.

Clear as mud?????

Don't worry, we'll reclaim that troublesome little colony one day, the experiment clearly hasn't worked.

The zero line of longitude passes through the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, London - hence that being the base line from which global time is worked out. Until somone comes up with a day of 10 hours, each of 100 minutes, which in turn each consist of 100 seconds!!!

Hear, hear!!! <raises glass> <no offers from anyone to refill, so puts down again>

As a little embellishment; back in mid 19th century when railways were being spread across good ol' Blighty a new time was derived .. Railway Time. Places to the east and west of London would display Railway Time sometimes in addition to Local Time for so-called better accuracy of railway timetabling .. caused all sorts of problems.
The Victorians were almost as pedantic as me!

Railway Time still confuses people... my train often arrives here or at my destination 20 minutes after the timetable was supposed to.

Might be up and stable by bedtime I guess, maybe I'll go play WoW instead tonight.

<pedant>
Isn't it really a few metres away from the observatory thanks to
the continental drift that's occurred since it was first defined?
</pedant>

They told us something like that when we visited during a school trip years ago anyway.

I've always been perplexed by LL's use of pacific time for a global platform.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

But the UK is not on GMT at this time of year.

The UK is on daylight saving time which puts them one hour ahead of GMT.

(GMT never changes but the local UK time changes with daylight saving time)

According to the LL Blog, SL was back up at 8:45 PDT.
If that is true, SL was back up at 15:45 GMT and 16:45 local UK time, which means SL was actually up again just before the planned service window ended .....
