At my shop I have very unlevel ground so I use a Megaprim for the foundation and one for the roof its a 1024 lot and that made things soo much easier than using 16 10 meter blocks to cover the same area, and saved a few prims as well, the only oddity I have noted is that new items do not like to rez on the megaprims as much so I put down some carpeting to fix that. to Nic, this is a known issue with mega prims, the bounding box was never made to work with such a large item. The only way to go inside is to make the object Phantom. To Alice, yes it's incredibly difficult (but not impossible) to get things to rez on a mega prim. Placing a normal prim down for that purpose is the right idea.

From: Kitty Barnett If you're on the mainland, megaprims are definitely not allowed and Lindens will remove them when noticed/if causing problems.
that is a total lie.

to Daren
thanks for the anwser, I wont go crazy trying to achieve it now that I know this. Hope they can adjust the bounding box someday, because the 10m limitation is really too small for my taste. Why not 20m? Is it going to change one day? Why not having a builder account system or something, you prove you are not irresponsible and you get small privileges, like bigger prim. I know I'm dreaming, but still, that would be awesome.

Well, in Havok4, your megaprims will work as intended:
I rezzed a 150m³ sphere in the bug-testing sim they've got set up, and set it physical. Then, after seeing it ROLL after being pushed enough, I shift-copied it, and the engine didn't the bat an eye solving the interpolation.
Also, I'd been hearing that hollow/dimpling on megaprims collide correctly, but haven't tested that yet.
And for those that were at the meeting Tuesday, I did ask about having the max size bumped some (thinking 40m³ would be a nice compromise), but that was shot down... for now.

From: poopmaster Oh that is a total lie. Not a TOTAL lie. They are allowed on the mainland, as long as no one reports your megaprims as causing problems. If someone complains, the Lindens DO come out and delete them.

From: Tiberious Neruda Well, in Havok4, your megaprims will work as intended: I take it that the "size" is still preset and not adjustable, or did that change as well? (I'm having technical issues atm or would head to the Beat to test myself on this.) ~Jessy

Sizes are still preset, but your cuts and hollows WILL work like they should when Havok4 hits.
I needed to go to Beta to grab a couple scripts I tweaked, and tested that while there.

From: someone Are Mega/Huge prims "dangerous?" Megaprims killed my father and raped my mother! Then, they turned me into a newt! Sorry, couldn't resist... In the recent blog entries on Havoc4, there have been some very encouraging things said about mega prims. I've used the 20x20x0.5 ones in my mall and they have worked fine so far. I've refrained from using them in any products due to their uncertain status now, but after Havoc4 is in place, the status-quo might change, and I've got my fingers crossed that some of the comments in the blogs will become reality. -Atashi
