And don't forget that traffic is going away! So forget about camping chairs and stuff. Camping won't make your place popular!

Christi,,

That was an incredibly long post but to tell the truth...I think I understood your point. Thank you for the input.

What I think is the best bet for me is to to buy about 2048 to 4000m worth of land and build this "original" and "unique" club of mine. If it works out then great....if not.... no skin of my back. All in thename of fun and experimenting in SL. I have done searches for land about this size and have found quite a few affordable lots available.

Still going with my idea.... I just need to find the right place.

my club is called "Yiff theater" it's a simple place and has lost almost $500,000L over the last 14 months.

Luckly it was intended as a money pit. The vending area is just an afterthought.

---
I have people look at my club and ask me how to make money or how to make there club popular and all I can tell them is what NOT to do.

1. Don't force your patrons to walk halfway across the sim each time they arrive. If you must restrict the landing point, place a teleporter.

2. Stay consistent. I find it takes over 6 months before people stop using old landmarks after you change.
So moving things around is a real pain.

3. Never shut down! I don't care if you are redecorating. You need to stay open or people will remove the land marks from there inventory.
After that happens you have lost them.
Kicking out renters just to change the theme will also cause problems.

4. Write out your rules and stick to them. Business owners can't play favorites. If you ban someone... you need a reason.

5. Avoid the sim curse!
Some places and clubs think that getting a sim is a great idea, but you actually get more for your $ using 4 mainland sims. (quad corner)
I've seen several clubs and groups buy sims just to run into financial or ego problems.
Remember that it takes months to get a sim rented out and you will have
to pay the sim cost out of pocket for at least 4 months just before you break even.

---
My recomendation is to start with 2560sq near a sim border in a quiet area of sims.

Then divide off a 10m area along the sim border and call it the DMZ. This area should NOT be used as it impacts all the ancient sims. (see "net time";)

Place the dance floor in one sim up in the sky and use "no update" or "low lag" color changing scripts for the floor and lights.
To tell the difference enable the debug menu and enable "Show updates"

As you grow you will want to add more rooms for special areas. These can be placed in the other sims or at different altitudes.

---
Eventually I see LL making underground building posible, so try and find land that is between 30m and 200m above sea level so that a private area can be made below.

Answer: NO.

A club is NOT something for a first time business owner. It's a cuttthroat business, and if you do manage to get successful, other owners will try to steal your customers and destroy you.

That and everyone and their sister wants a club. No one will come because they're sitting in their club waiting for YOU to come. O_o

Well said.

I once managed/inherited a club from someone I was close to that couldnt be on much.

Even though I tried to make it a "community" type club and we were on an island with a lot of residents in a social group. There were at least 6 clubs started by the less than 50 group members during the time period.

Even though the club was already there, paid for, and had no tier charge.

Everyone tried promoting events in the group channel. Basically it was just like you said. No one could become a regular at any of these clubs BECUASE they were all waiting for someone to come to thier own club.
