As a suggestion, perhaps you could use the amazing "IM" facility that has existed since SL was actually invented.

Ordinal, when I saw your name under replies I *knew* it would be worth the click. :D

I speak merely out of a desire to offer assistance. It is a little-known thing, after all, that there is actually a secret function which allows one to send messages directly from Person to Person, without having to post them publicly on a board in the hope that somebody might read them, come across the person concerned and remember.

I am told that this function is also more efficient than "writing a message on a brick and leaving it by the road" and "screaming a message into the faces of random passers-by on public transport until one is arrested".

Really? Crud. What am I going to do with these two tin cans and string I have been using? :(

Absolutely everything you said is correct (except maybe the part about existing since SL was invented...........I don't know that for sure since I was not here). But, I did check the OP's profile and he/she joined the forums just today. I have no idea of when he/she might have joined SL, but my bet would be that it, too, is rather recent. Perhaps he/she simply did not know that, or maybe he/she is not inworld at the moment or maybe he/she cannot log in (there have been reports today about log ins failing).

It might be that your post was meant as a "tee hee, ha ha" but it sure came across as a smart assed put down. Was that necessary?

Ahh, but this is one of the most entertaining methods. I for one prefer entertainment over effieciency, most of the time.

You think you've got it bad? I have thirty carrier pigeons on my roof that are going to be out of work.

Damn! String? I knew something was missing when I tried the cellphone version, it wouldn't work at more than chat distance unless I shouted.......................

Yeah, I ran into that too. Thank goodness for Radio Shack. I had questions, they had answers.

Yeah, but when I twisted all the wire ends of those transistor/resistor/capacitor things together they weren't long enough and even after joining thousands of them it still didn't work over chat distance, but string, maybe that might just work :)

I find the #2 twine has better range. Possibly due to the increase you get in tension. Color doesn't matter though, so don't let them try to sell you a fancy Red or Green. White was good enough for our forefathers and it works just as well today.

Good luck. :)

The OP now has all the information needed to more efficiently contact their friend, and the rest of us get some free entertainment to boot. I fail to see the problem :)

Obviously you guys are unfamiliar with the thrill involved in publically posting secret messages, knowing that everybody can see the message but only you and your friends know what it actually means.

I was told this secret decoder ring worked on all secret messages.

Did that fancy dressed guy lie to me?
