I've been in Second Life for over three years and I've not needed support. Some people need more help than others when it comes to reconciling what they think they deserve vs. what they've gotten. My own expectations are fairly minimal, but I've had to lean on support more than a few times.... but as of yet have always been impressed because the service I've seen was always better than the service I hear people screaming about being non-existent. I have no doubt that some people have a legitimate cause to complain about support. I'm just not one of them. Yet. And hopefully never. |

Ok, but what about problems with billing or accounts that are inaccessible/banned for no apparent reason? Someone the other day said they bought land and because of a crash, it took her money and reverted back to the previous owner's land. I see these problems on a daily basis in these forums. It seems it takes more than 7 business days to resolve them. It took them a month to respond to an account problem I had/am having, and it is still not resolved. LL always talks about scaling to the needs of a growing community. I think customer service/support should be next on their list.

The problem would be solved if someone, ANYBODY, at LL would personally respond to a support request the SAME DAY it was started. They don't necessarily have to actually fix the thing the same day, but just acknowledge that it has been read.. .and not just an answering machine or some other automated response. Why the hell does it take a week or more for support to get back to people? Especially when it concerns matters of real USD! That is just ridiculous and the reason people come here to gripe. I haven't had any major problems myself, but I've experienced their slow support response first hand... i can sympathize.

As far as problems like THAT, in-world "griefers", etc yeah...I handle it the same way, since I've been on the net for over 10 years in a work AND social capacity, from text chat, to Worlds.com, There.com, Habbo Hotel ( heh), MUDs, etc. (dam I love bad grammar & overuse of commas) I already know it's useless for us ta take these things personally. Ya can't smack somebody in the face who "shoots" your RL mother's avatar, unless they live within a reasonable distance, lol. Socially you could be %100 anonymous in SL. Some folks in the Silents group don't even talk. Now...you NEVER need support. NICE! Why even bother ta post this thread, go hit the BETA server & have some fun ![]() When you get a problem that's SERVER-SIDE and you don't work for the company, it's neccessary ta have a support department that can troubleshoot and fix it. Folks who can close trouble tickets, so they keep customers. Luckily for Linden Labs (FOR NOW), thier product "gets folks addicted", thus they are still in business. When somethin better comes along...bye bye Second Life! Happens with games, TV shows, and all other media ALL the time...why NOT ask for Support when ya need some? It actually HELPS the company who you pay for service! I used ta work in Tech Support, & yeah most of the calls were from idiots who would do things like cuss us out over "why the internet is down", when we only hosted thier WEBSITE, not thier DSL! I even handled the proverbial "why does my computer have a coffee cup holder?" question, and we handn't even sold the fool a computer, just a printer. So yeah, it might be annoying for support to have folks ask simple questions that the Resident Answers Forum could easily answer, (if they ever bothered ta READ IT) ...but decent, active Tech Support is GREAT for I.T. based businesses. Do you work for LL??? Reason I ask is cause this post reminds me of the lies our CFO used ta post under his false "customer" account on the DSL Reports website to make our disgruntled customers look dumb (especially the ones that were right). He would post "I've never had a problem in 3 years!", "I'm such a loyal customer that they came to my house and fixed my computer free of charge." etc. Folks seem obsessed about LL support in my opinion because they can't get enough of it to enjoy the product they pay for on what would be considered a decent functioning level, for most products & services. LL has bugs that can cost alot of real money if not handled in a quick matter. I've also needed live help for things like a greifer taking over an island of mine with particles, or people using megaprims in a way that covers an entire sim. So I guess if your sl consists of standing in a club talking to your friends once in a great while you wouldnt need live help, but for people who acually "use" sl and devote alot of time here we needed live help. |
