Ya know there was a time when i used to go to a lot of clubs, jazz places romantic evenings with some friends having a close dance...
Then the clubs got busy...VERY BUSY.
What is it with these romantic places/club owners who insist on cramming 60+ people into a sim, then when the patrons complain of walking in treacle they blame it on the following things...
1: Your avatar has too many attachments 2: Your draw distance is set too high 3: You have too many HUDS on 4: YOU YOU YOU! Its YOUR fault!
Nooo...
I'll tell ya why its doing it mr "I'm gonna cram as many people in here as possible" its cause YOU have overloaded YOUR SIM!
It's got nothing to do with scripts cause youve disabled scripts, its got nothing to do with pushing people on the sim cause youve disabled push, its got nothing to do with people rezzing object cause youve disabled that as well, heck youve disabled everything but your once great club is now a lag fest....why?
Cause theres too many people in it!
Note to club owners who blame their patrons for lag in a sim holding above 60+ people...click Help, then click on Lag Meter, then try and tell your patrons it's their fault!
Sorry, had to rant somewhere...a club i used to love going to has now fallen foul of owners who wanna cram as many folks in and then have the cheek of blaming their own patrons for the lag saying they have too many huds on, too many attachments...blah...blah...blah.

Yes I may know which club you refer to. Can barely move across the floor as you walk in.
It isn't only how many people either, I think a lot of places go gonzo on the prims, forgetting all people really want is a dance floor, music and a view (oh and pose/dance thingys).
A related question, why is it you go some of those places and everyone is just standing around like jr. high dances?

Yes I can think of two offhand. And, me too. Except once in a while when I want to show off a new gown...then, I end up standing around. Is it that big a deal to whirl someone around a few times. Sooo many lovely female avs standing around, and the male ones don't seem to approach any.
I prefer Swoon now. No lag it's just a dance floor on the beach, nice staff and it's PG. Dress code, too.

i used to work for one of them and i got so used to the lag that i could tell the level of lag i was in.. when i got off work and went anyplace else it was like a new game.. when traffic is not an issue OR if traffic ever stops being the issue we may see a change but until then they are gonna kram them as full as they can. i don't work in those places anymore and really have gotten used to not having to deal with lag.. everytime i hear someone say lag i think to those times and say to myself..this is not lag..this is doable.. but ya you start tasting the good lag around 40 people and up..nothing is as thick as the 80's and 90's or more irritating as..LETS SEE IF WE CAN CRASH THIS SIM!!!1,000 $L to the 100th person in the sim lol i'll stick to building them now.

From: Victor1st Mornington It's got nothing to do with scripts cause youve disabled scripts, Scripts in attachments worn before entering the no-script area are still functional if they called llTakeControls(). So people's AOs do have some effect, and MystiTools, and various other scripted stuff. But that's probably not much of the lag. I'll wager that most of these sims' frame is gobbled up by image download and network time, just like most every other lagged sim on the grid. Just too many agents looking at too many textures--including those of the other avatars.

Oh and let's not forget super laggy sims making you bump into every other av on your way in (or landing on them as the case might be) because for five minutes they are invisible still.

From: Clarissa Lowell Oh and let's not forget super laggy sims making you bump into every other av on your way in (or landing on them as the case might be) because for five minutes they are invisible still. They are visible on the mini-map. I navigate using that at full zoom until I can see everyone, assuming it's not so crowded it looks like one big green blob. In the latter case they don't need my patronage. The solution I use for club overcrowding is to try finding a less popular club, plain and simple. There is an ideal number of avs that I look for on the main map before I TP to a club. Less than 5 and it's awkward leaving me feeling like I'm intruding on a private party even when it's not. More than 20 and you start having lag issues and conversation is all but a confused meaningless jumble. The ideal number for my comfort seems to be between 10 and 20. Unfortunately not many clubs have this number of patrons. It seems to be all or nothing.

Not sure that I buy this. Big crowds can be a lot of fun and do you expect the club owner to start throwing people out? Keeping people from entering is hardly a way to ensure your business continues to be popular. Surely the priority is to have as many people as possible enjoy a place, rather than keep it empty just so it works correctly for a few.
While it's certainly true that a large crowd creates ridiculous lag, more often it truly is the fact that some blingtard finds it necessary to sport a 200+ prim tail and those oh-so adorable ears that twirl about like satellite dishes. People always think someone else ought to take off the scripts and attachments because their own are too special to do without. I recently attended a fashion show where the host asked people to remove as much extra stuff as possible, since SL was wonky at the time. Apparently, the tosspot with the gigantic flappy alpha wings in the front row didn't feel herself addressed.
And all THAT said, I have seen lagged clubs where the OWNER adds plenty more of it by having prim-sporting dancers (WHY WHY WHY do you need those in a busy club?), stuff falling from the ceiling, mist rising from the floor, textures changing, things whirling about and all sorts of bits that surely don't help matters.
Point is, there are ways of reducing lag before you throw out the paying clientele!

They have dancers because the dancers are the ones engaging people, greeting them, and keeping conversation going. Plus they usually skim off the top of dancers' tips, as one of the few sources of income.

What’s the big deal with bumping into people, I mean it really doesn't do any harm, or does it?
I have bumped into other AVs quite unintentionally, simply because it's been laggy and I didn't see them, I always apologise. But I am only aware of it when they make a point of grumbling about it.

for me textures is a lot of it, there is one club I go to that has wooden floors, walls, a few tables and a bar, dance balls and that's it. I love it! There is another that I go to that has flashing neon signs, a hundred diff textures, and dancers/host who gesture spam...and every time I go there it is like walking in jello. I wouldn't even go there at all if a friend weren't the dj. And the last time I went, someone hung up one of those sploders that bring in a simful of sploder hunters. Of course that's when I leave...my little one traffic won't be missed I'm sure. Come to think of it, I hate that place lol...I'm not going back. I am intrigued by the beach place with a dress code I will check that out!

It's a free service for Christ sake . what are you gonna do frequent a new place, not donate and help cover cost and when it gets busy start crying and complaining because you have donated so much money there should be more room?

everything factors in when you get around 40 people in a sim..textures prims bling and amount of people.. the thing you have with bigger clubs vs the smaller is with so many people there security is going to be quicker to eject someone than say a smaller club that can spend time with someone.. more times than not if someone is asked to remove something they will..but there are cases where people just think they don't have to..like the smartass walking in with a strapon spouting i don't have a penis on it's a pink strapon lol omg i couldn't believe someone tested security standing up for penis rights wearing a strapon one night..i felt like saying let him stay because it's just too funny lol

I think that when a club gets that popular they need to put up a velvet rope with a bouncer.
I think that the club should also look at itself and reduce any design elements that cause lag too.

sniff sniff Personally if I like a club, I DO donate. If I like a DJ, I tip them. If I think a dancer is doing a good job, I tip them even tho they don't particularly interest me unless of course they are male And looking at the title of the thread, it is mainly about clubs who contribute to their own demise by thinking more about the numbers than the people.

Well I really have not had that much problem dealing with lag in a busy club.
Arrive Say Hi Say Still rezzing BRB Go make some tea, get a snack, take a potty break etc... Come back everything is pretty much rezzed Slog through the lag and find a spot Start my huddels Don't move
Works for me.
But I rather hang out at a smaller place, it's easier to follow the conversation that way.

So long as people keep coming to them, why do you expect them to change?
What is it that you're going to clubs for? If big clubs don't do it for you, then go to smaller ones, or try something else. Sandboxes are generally pretty interesting hangouts, with more stuff going on than clubs. Really... about the only time I go to clubs is when I'm invited there by a friend.

I was at this one club for a looksee outta boredom. The club was a lagfest because it had all the whirling-changing textures, spinning light cones, particle mist and pretty much every prim in the build seemed to have a script to do something completely unnecessary. There were a few "dancers" who were dancing on camping poles, about a third of which were quite apparently AFK and the other two-thirds might have been for all the chatting they did.
And everything that had something to say SHOUTED IT!!! And there was no live DJ, the audio stream either didn't like me or it wasn't running even canned stuff. If they hadn't had a sim to themselves, I think the neighbors would have had them shut down. I bet if the tarted up dancers/escorts (their titles had dancer/escorts, anyways) actually had said anything, it'd have been shouted or howled...
Needless to say, I didn't stay there too awful long. The only reason I stayed was because the grid was a little slow on TPing and left me stranded a couple of times before I decided to just log out. I logged back in to my home sim, rather that lag log.

From: Bree Giffen ...I think that the club should also look at itself and reduce any design elements that cause lag too. This. There's one (very busy) club I've been to a few times where one of the owners is manic about getting people to remove huds, attachments, not use particles, etc - which is fine I guess... except that the animated texture floor, the invisible prim light show, the bot doorman who sends out group invites and welcomes you, the animated water textures, the scripted profile viewer sign and heavy prim builds all around the building are probably contributing to his problem just as much as the patrons are.
