(Please mark all that you think apply)

Obviously, different people have different ideas of what stuff is appropriate for Resident Answers... I'm just curious, of the people that actually read RA, what do you think it SHOULD be used for?

I picked them all. In the absence of general and off topic areas, put 'em here.

I think people use this forum because there is no general forum and people want to feel like they're laying their burdens down at the foot of Mt. Olympus for the gods to see.

The problem is the gods don't come down from Mt. Olympus that much anymore! They got annoyed by all the complaints and suggestions the mortals go off with when they feel they have a god's attention! Now they'd just rather stay home.

Advice and debating I see here mostly. There's no general forum so this forum is a bit of a mish mash but advertising should go elsewhere, there are forums for that.

Could you please advertise about the advertisement forums in the advertisement forums? :D

13 voters... 11 favor: "SUPPORT & ADVICE! How can/should I ..."

From which I can only conclude that 2 people so far think that RA shouldn't be used for, well, pretty much it's intended purpose. Bizarre.

And yet there are so many posts that touch every subject you mentioned EXCEPT support and advice!

This post included! ;)

I figured Gossip & stories would cover that, or at least the "Anything else" category. ;)

I voted for them all! :D

I'm such a self-contrarian like that. :P

..or maybe there's something subconsciously prescient about wanting a place to post something.

Every forum I have ever run came with some kind of general, off-topic, and, in some cases, rants subforum, where people could post whatever. Of course, the staff actually made an effort to police the forums, and the developers/owners/people-who-had-the-info would actually make an appearance and converse with the peoples, too.

Oh well.. that's a pipe dream here.

Ahh, yes. Now that I've had a couple of margaritas, it is very clear that "Attention Whoring" covers all catergories other than "Support and Advice."

Techinically its only for Support and Advise.
Yet because of how things are in world or other various reason there really no way to get group of people to actually discuss things.
Sometimes this is a good thing.
And sometimes it becomes not such good thing or how the forums are moderated becomes up to whomever is in charge when certain things are enforced sadly.
Yet they probably have there own life don't have every moment to spend punishing and closing threads in forums.
So even its mindless debates over policy that often result in discussion over things like about how specific word is used like recent debate over poll question and word "rarely" just gets annoying yet perhaps it serves as enterntainment or some type of value to someone even I personally don't get it.
I guess it give some people things to do because they are bored, addicted or must correct spelling, create clever, witty downs. taunt the new comers.
Yet I hope and do occassional see something pleasant and good too or I wouldn't ever return to forums personally.

Let's unpick the title, shall we....

Resident Answers.

It would seem this is a place for residents of SL to post answers. Answers to what?
Resident questions, I presume. But since the thread is called Resident Answers we shouldn't post any questions!!!! LOL....it's the way I tell 'em........ (slaps own knee)
