From: Infiniview Merit I did quite a bit of experimentation with the terrain idea, and you can make some beautiful prim based terrains with them, however due to the physicality problem that Kalel mentioned they wont be feasible anytime soon for that application. You could do a very shallow terrain like sand water grass or dirt as long as you don't mind your feet getting covered up. Ooh!! What about putting invisible regular prims over the terrain basically shaped as close as possible to the scupltie's so walking wouldn't look so weird? It's all about illusion!

Yes, I think everyone got a little bit over excited when sculpted prims were anounced, talk of them 'revolutionising the world' may have been exagerated. Not to take away from their potential, but I am allot less worried today now that I am seeing the scuplties that others are importing. I cannot really see any immediate implications on my business in the short term and in the long term I hope to have gained enough experience to utilize them to their full potential in building. By the way, the first sculpty I saw on the main grid yesterday was indeed a penis so Collette was spot on with her earlier comments.

Agree with the limitations of sculpties, absolutely and the overhype.
That said, they will be a fantiastic addition to the grid and with imagination can be used highly creatively.
We have had out first pure sculpty assignment which is due for delivery by the weekend.

I discovered something with drop down menu using regular prims with sculpted option. I am not sure what I did but it make pretty nice leaves. If you're interested look at link here: /53/19/186027/1.html#post1522406

From: Kalel Venkman Unfortunately sculpty prims won't work for that - collision detection is done as though the sculpty prim were in its default, undeformed state, not its compound-curvy sculpted form. You can't use it to make undulating hills over which to walk. KV, Does that apply to furniture too? If I made a 1960s Bertoia chair with all its wonderful parabolas and curves, would the AV sit on the original prim shape and possibly end up hovering over the chair?

hmmm i played a bit with sculpties. but i can´t see them replacing most of the oldschool builds. they are good for things like a couch, because you can produce rounder edges. but when it comes to complex shapes (uploaded a 1 prim skull) the LOD destroys them pretty much when you zoom out just 3 meters or so and after 6 meters it just looks like crap (depends on the size though) i am not sure though if they are really implemented for complex shapes or just for simple rounder shapes. i build motorcycles most of the time and i can´t really see how they can help me there. but maybe they are pretty good for other builders. i really hope that LL will be tweaking the LOD settings to switch later
