Sigh, I did not want to do this but im desperate...
My g/f and I have been looking ALL over for somewhere to rent to get away from our sim.
We have went to tens of different places and many claim to be "the best!" but they`re such a disappointment.
We are not looking for a plot of land to rent, we are looking for a nice residential community where we can pay the rental box and live in the home.
There are 2 good communities we know of (Nunki Kai and that mystique place) but we do not wish to rent at either of those places.
Where are the other good communities? I could stand living on a 'beach' but i dont particularly want to. I prefer somewhere that looks like a neighborhood, ya know with streets.
I would appreciate some recommendations. -well put together neighborhood -good landlord -affordable
Im not looking for someone to tell me "use search" as ive been searching 3 nights in a row. Im guessing there might be some good places that just are not advertised or perhaps im searching for the wrong keyword and missing these places......
Help? =\

I think communities can have people watch the sim.
I found a REALLY nice place awhile back, rented it, and got harrased by "police" there so I moved out.
He followed me from my friends house to mine, then he proceeded to walking in my home, and telling me to remove things from inside. It was terrible, and out of the group of "police" 3 of them were extremely bothersome. I like to be left alone and not "spied" on. heh
Im sick of looking for a place and sadly im tempted to go back there and see if anythings open. Perhaps the "police" are gone...

Sounds like a nightmare Jesseaitui! I'd wondered if there was a Neighbourhood Watch group who could tell you that theirs is a quiet area. Our RL one is soo quiet they really are stuck for things to put in their newsletters! Is renting so vulnerable you can't keep strangers out of your home? I'm afraid I know next to nothing about homes in SL. In fact before anyone else gets it in .. it is nothing!

Well some places have it so you can only allow people of your choice on your land- that way no one can get in your home.
Others have door locks that only you can control but even then people can still get in a few different ways lol

Caledon?
11-21-2006 01:58
Have you checked Caledon?
It's a group of (I believe) 8 sims now. The environment and community is very nice. Just take in account that it's a sort of benevolent dictatorship, in the sense that the owner/manager (Desmond Shang) enforces some rules.
The whole group of sims sticks to a specific theme, too, which is a mix of Victorian/Edwardian/Steampunk. So out-of-theme builds are forbidden at least on the ground.
Visit it and check, it's surely one of the best places to live in SL, if you agree to the theme.

You might want to check out Uli - its PG on a mountainside, leading down to a river. My neighbour recently sold up a fair bit of land and its now used for house rentals. If you want a tour, IM me.

I second the Caledon recommendation, I've been renting there for a fair while and it's always been a pleasant place with a sense of community. But - good luck getting land there, especially on such a short notice.

From: Jackal Ennui I second the Caledon recommendation, I've been renting there for a fair while and it's always been a pleasant place with a sense of community. But - good luck getting land there, especially on such a short notice. My apologies to everyone for that, and thank you both for the kind words. We are at 9 sims, to be as many as 13 in December (already ordered), but *even so* I don't think I'll match demand on the waiting list. Caledon will still grow in 2007 but not like it has until now - even though I can charge far more than I do, doesn't mean I should. If sim owners keep raising prices, all it will mean is that we'll see another land tier price hike. Sim owners I can vouch for: Check out Serra Anansi for a twilight, Gothic nation soon to be 2 sims - she's one of Caledon's estate managers and is one of the people that made us so successful. She may be full though; she's incredibly talented when it comes to providing a good land experience, and people have been quickly discovering this. Also consider Dirk Talamasca's residential sims (I believe he may have some room but knowing his excellent reputation, he'll fill up fast). I've known Alliez since before SL, and there is a reason she has a strong following - when you have 35 sims and not ONE complaint in forums ever, well - that's pretty good. Though anyone with over a few sims is doing something right - something very right to keep people satisfied.

You might want to check out AmySue Shirakawa's sims. She does a great job and maintains beautiful properties IMHO.

I live in the Otherland Archipelago. Getting pretty large, and I think is up to about 55 sime now (14 new ones JUST added). They allow rental, and purchase separately from LL. Also, the lag is much lower than mainland anywhere. Good views, and great neighbors. Also, there's a covenant in place which keeps your neighbors from building high lag shops or something else ridiculous like a 200m tower. go to www.otherland-group.com and check out their rental prices. Maybe a little too big for what you're looking for, but man I love that place.

Caledon- Definitely not what im looking for (And judging from the forum response I wouldnt be able to get in even if it was lol so congrats to the owners), I was actually looking for something along the lines of "Nunki Kai"- everything flows together and theres rental boxes outside each house, you pay it when its open and its yours. I lagged to hell at Caledon, which is weird, maybe SL is just being laggy right now
Uli- Did I mention I cant live on the mainland? I didnt lol. Suckage, mainland is just terrible on my laptop. So nothing rezzed and I couldnt see it.
AmySue Shirakawa's sims- Nice if youre looking for a plot of land. Im looking for a community/neighborhood with the homes already in place, just to rent for a week or two.
Can you give me the SIM name youre talking about? I ran a search for her and ended up on just a single sim (But you mentioned SIMS) called Andromedae...

Check out Provincetown. There are several rooms and a loft or two for rent, PLUS there are several plots of land available for rent (and in Lindens, not USD). It's quiet (except for Saturday nights, when RadioRadio broadcasts from there) and the landlords are an outstanding couple. The sim is constructed as a recreation of Provincetown, MA--so it's New England-ish, with lots of open space and parks. DISCLAIMER: I built the sim, so I'm probably partial to it Kam

I lagged to hell at Caledon, which is weird, maybe SL is just being laggy right now Thanks for the congrats, it's actually everyone trying really hard there Caledon has lag like every other popular place; I had to do a couple of sim restarts today. What happens for us (and every other sim, it's all the same) - is that high numbers of visitors looking at all the sim textures and each other's textures overwhelms the image cache. A few highly textured avatars with primcounts in the thousands can overwhelm just about anything. At some point - and this is speculation, but many believe it - the image cache starts writing to the server's hard disk, causing spikes of lag. I saw one good case of this in Caledon today, which was readily remedied by a sim restart. Caledon actually does have "rental boxes" but they are tucked neatly into the streetlamp address prims. Blatant rental boxes are really unsightly, and it's not like we have a huge need to advertise vacancies. One other place you might try, if you are looking for very a very close, uniform look is Neufreistadt / Colonia Nova. They are a bit intense on 'sim government', but doesn't hurt to look. There are some really good people there.

From: Jesseaitui Petion Im at Colonia Nova- Where are the homes to rent? Im at some home by a lake but i dont see any type of rental box Ah, sorry, they just opened quite recently to public consideration (I believe the 15th) and I'm not entirely sure what their precise situation is, other than that they are a fairly well-covenanted, highly organised and passionate community. Try this link for what it's going to become: http://colonianova.info/ (specifically, http://colonianova.info/id6visual1layout1article22.html ) Also, http://neufreistadt.info/ ... and for balance, this is a fair mention (the original group, now a separate project): www.neualtenburg.org I wish I were better informed about all these communities; I've simply been too busy. They are rich in history and participation, with all the interesting things that come with that sort of thing. Heh, yes this is very much a resident answer, though oddly I find myself, ah... "pimping the competition" here - but heh, it's a big grid, and we are all friendly rivals.

Take a look at Celestia sim, a very quite adult community with great houses designed by Ace Abilon. IM Matt Enfield, or Ace, or Parker McTegue (sp?) for info or catch me in game (usually after 5pm SLT) for a quick resident eye tour of the place.

Thank you Kamael for the nice comment about my partner and I. Re: Desmond and lag... Provincetown was specifically designed to be as low lag as possible. Limiting the effects of lag is possible, but it does take planning BEFORE the sim is built. It's a failure of many great sims that lag effect was not taken into consideration during the planning stage. The Provincetown dance club Babylon was tested over a period of a couple weeks to be sure the lighting would provide a pleasant experience while limiting the lag usually associated with such clubs. We limit scripts and scripted objects in our residences and commercial properties as well. Our first party in July... the introduction of the completed sim... maxed the avie limit and we did in fact crash... IIRC we hit 41 or 42 before the sim went down. However, since then, we keep tight control over what's scripting in the sim during events, and we have now had the avie limit boosted to 50, and have had nearly that many avies on several occasions without tech problems... Linden issues notwithstanding. We welcome everyone to visit and see the outstanding build Kamael Xevious and K2 Developers has created. And yes, we do offer some spendid residential units, though demand outweighs availability most of the time. We're working on that even as we speak!

I recently rented in Lakeview for this very reason. It is a nice residential looking area with community access to a four sim lake. You might see if they have any plot available.
