Y'know...THIS is gonna be the end of us all. Not voice. Not a buggy client. Not lag.

But lawyers.

Just like vampires, once you invite the bloodsuckers in...there's no getting rid of them.

This will all end in tears.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

If they actually have enough of a case sue on, they would need the information to be able to sure, obviously. So I guess this isnt a surprise.

Have to wonder about the lawyer - I mean lol talk about low prestigue cases ..

Lawyer for the Plantiff, Owner of a Sex Business in a Virtual world...

Is nothing wrong with that of course - just that its not something to write home about.

I thought it was people getting into legal trouble. A lawyer won't show up if you don't

a) break the law

b) hire one

Be original and you won't worry nearly as much about getting sued for IP issues! It's not that hard! Billions of people aren't sued every day!!

We deal strictly in gold, silver, and copper. ;)

But the basic download is free, the current expansion is about 40USD, and the service is $14.99/month. It's illegal to bring money into the game and can get your account suspended or terminated if you use (or are) one of the gold farmers.

There's also a free 2-week trial before you have to pay the monthly fee, which is nice.

I respectfully disagree.

This is a landmark case with huge implications for IP protection within the virtual space. This case is far more important than the frivolous Bragg case.

Stroker is a good guy, bursting with talent and creativity. Regardless of what you think about virtual sex, this man has clearly developed a product and a brand that is in high demand. It is fully proper that he protect himself. He has an enormous amount of time and personal treasure invested in his business. In my view, he is to be applauded for this aggressive and justified stand to protect his IP from theft.

In so many ways, Stroker is sticking his own neck out with a test case that will set a precedent that will inure to the benefit of us all.

Thank you Stroker.

hehe

I have nothing against Virtual Sex.

I quite enjoy it.

What I mean is being lawyer to someone who has the Screen name "Stroker" who is the owner of a Virtual sex business is sure to get snickers from the other Lawyers.

I am not commenting on the merits of the case at all, or whether its important.

Thats all.

I also dont have anything against Stroker - nor do I feel other people should be allowed to profit off his copyrights and tradmarks.

:) I am sure you are right. So lets throw some kudos to the attorney as well. Honestly though, I think it's fairly shrewd decision on his or her part. This case does have the potential to be quite a big deal.

Well Stroker deserves credit for that SexGen stuff. Hiro actually had the Multi Animation idea first, but Stroker's Bed was much easier to use, move, etc. It just was so much more user friendly it took off.

He doesnt deserve having his Trade Name generisized and people profiting off his name recognition.

So He has as much right to sue as anyone infringed on.

I think a good outcome (win or lose) would be the Virtual World Trademark to be considered as seriously as a non Virtual World Trademark.

The thing is, this place we call Second Life is like the wild west, since it's a new world real law's haven't taken too much place yet, allowing people to get away free doing something we would consider illegal in real life. That and being Anonymous.

That's right. But remember, this case isn't really about trademark infringement ... it's about copyright infringement. Stroker's products were copied and then resold for only a fraction of the price.

This lawsuit sure helps the "SL is only about sex" preconception that the general public has. Too bad this lawsuit wasn't over something creative.

Either way it's important to have a prescedent set for this type of situation if all this "Internet in 3-D!" stuff is actually going to become the norm.
