Hello.

I have a very strange situation. Most of my lands are open to the public and I am always happy when people come and explore, and enjoy themselves. Some people return with friends and that's great.

However, for nearly one week, the same avatar has been "resting" in the same spot on my land. It's like the avatar is suffering narcolepsy. Now I thought that one gets "kicked out of SL" due to inactivity after a set period of time. It's been almost one week! LOL

In truth, I could care less if someone is camping on my property, and I've grown accustomed to her presence, but now I'm wondering if she's stuck and the RL person can't log on because her avatar is stuck. Presumably she'd contact LL.

I don't want to eject her from the property or push her... I think she's safe on my land.

But I'm dying to know if anyone else has heard of this. If you need to see in world to help me solve this riddle, go to Necros 220, 9, 45. She's standing at the entrance of my neko shinto shrine. Please do not disturb or harass her. I'm just looking for a way to help, if need be, her RL person AS WELL as an answer to this curiosity.

Thank you.

They're probably in IM, or writing scripts or something - basically, doing something that requires no physical action by the avatar. Or it's a network ghost of some sort. I logged off one time, and when I logged on a friend told me that my avatar had still been stood there for several hours after I left.

Maybe this is a ghost? An avatar that wasn't removed when the real avatar TPed? Have you tried IMing the avatar to see? If it's a 'stuck' maybe the system will reset it then.

Also, maybe the user really likes your land and can't help but just stand in awe of it? Or they haven't figured out how to TP out... there's a lot of reasons. Just IM them and ask!

You can disable afk via the Debug menu. Recently I went off to make a cup of coffee, got distracted, forgot I was still in-world and came back 2 hours later to find myself standing on my parcel. On of my friends routinely fall asleep at her computer. I was worried the first time, but now I just send her an IM telling her to wake up, LOL.

A week does seem excessive, though. I hope she is all right in RL.

Hmm Paint her white perhaps and plant some Ivy at her feet and use her as a decorative garden feature :0

Maybe they are a bot.
If you are really worried about it, contact a Linden about it. LL has policies in place for handling this sort of situation. I'm going to flag this for review just in case (mind you it might take a while to get reviewed). Makes me worry too.

Hmm - the first time my friend (who is in very poor health in RL) fell asleep at her keyboard, I contacted the Lindens via Live help because I and some of her other friends were so worried. She was just standing on her parcel and had not responded to our chat or IMs for a few hours. I was told by the Linden who responded that unless she contacted LL asking for help, there wasn't anything they could do about it.

I tried IMming her and it says she's offline. So I guess her avatar is stuck. So I guess the RL person will get it sorted when she wants back online. Thanks, all.

Very strange though... how on earth does it happen? ha ha

Or when the next rolling restart happens. It can happen for various reasons, such as the avatar cleanup process fails to remove the avatar from the sim when the real avatar leaves.. or the person's router/modem won't let go of the connection. (This has happened to my husband and I. My husband logged out, but the avatar was still in world for an hour afterwards. Resetting the router fixed it.)

But usually a restart of the sim frees/cleans up the avatar.

*grins* And after reading the title of the thread, all I could think of was that freaking 'AFK for no apparent reason' bug.

Strange it's been that long, I know there was a rolling restart all over the grid sunday lunch time (UK) as spent ages running all over the place to avoid being logged out

Any longer than Sunday due to the rolling restarts does sound very odd.
I remember some while back reading about peoples avatars not registering logging out and having to get a friend to ask the owner to eject them to refresh the server?

They may IRL be waiting for LL to do something about it but wouldn't a gentle 'eject' help her back?

I want an idlepet!

Someone come stand in my plot for a while. I think it'd be cute!
I wouldn't dress you up in prims or anything!
No, this isn't an arrow for your head. Why do you ask?
What bucket of warm water? No, I wasn't going to put your hand in it!
What kind of person do you think I am?

Hee!

The fun you could have had.

(Sorry. Too many years in a nightclub, dressing up drunks who have fallen asleep standing up at the bar.)

I visited your shrine, and do not see her at all. Maybe an artifact on your end?

I thought Narcoleptic Avatars were reserved for Lindens.

Have you tried to Friend her? That way, you would get a notification if she's online.

I've had a couple people I know linger online for hours after they logged off. It's gotten worse as the number of members increases.

She got moved/pushed down the slope so now she's in my neighbour's wall! OMG< poor thing. I'll try ejecting her and maybe that'll allow her to come back. I feel so rude though.

Go ahead and IM the user after you are done, explaining what happened and why you had to do it. Might make you feel better and give the other user a clue as to why they aren't there anymore!

hehe I would say she's stuck :) eject her and unstick her she might not actually be online you can test that and send her an im :)

I had a mermain living on my beach at one point in time until I moved so yes some people do adopt your house as a home. In this case I had a nice white sandy beach and it was perfect mermaid territory and she never got far from the water either. It was fun and she was always around for a good chunk of the day hehe. She eventually stopped living on my beach but it was a nice added touch while she was there. In your case though I think she is stuck and offline

In my opinion, the OP has to be the nicest, most considerate person I've encountered so far in SL. ;)

Hey, I was just there this AM. She's still stuck inside a wall at the neighbor's parcel. The wall is phantom from the Neko Shrine side cuz it's on the sim border, but solid from the other side. She's a cute Neko. Hmm, this is really strange for an AV to be on for such a long time. BTW, are you interested in some cherry trees? I've created some and would love to donate them for the Shrine. If so, contact me inworld.

She's a Neko? That's rather long for a catnap.

I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

Poor thing is still in the wall of the other land. I'm beginning to think they need a Linden to log them out. Or... report the sim down/needing restart.
