What's the email address of someone's SL IM box? Do they see what email address you sent it from or what do they see in terms of who it came from?

Also is there any type of SL IM client that just does SL IM, without having to fully log into SL using the SL client itself? At work I have a crappy Winblows XP computer with 360 MB of RAM and no 3D card, but I want to be able to IM people in real time, not over crappy email... or at least over email if there's no other way... please help tytytyt

For the first part of your post....if you mean hod you you reply to an IM from your email address, I believe the system in place now is you simply Reply to the email you recieved. Your reply will be converted into an IM and sent to the Resident in-world.

For the second part, the stand alone program you want is called SLeek I believe. Let me see if I can find a link for it.

There ya go. See if that's what you're looking for.

You can only send an E-mail to someone's SL IM in response to an IM they've sent to your E-mail (by virtue of your being offline at the time, and having IM to E-mail turned on in your preferences). Whenever an IM sent to you gets forwarded to your E-mail, the system sets up a temporary return address so you can reply. That address disappears after a few days.

As far as I know, there's no way to E-mail someone's IM account directly. And thank God for that. Could you imagine the griefing potential? You think it's annoying getting spam in your E-mail inbox? Imagine getting pinged all day long by junk mail while you're in SL. That would be hell.

No, but it's a very requested feature. Hopefully we'll have it one day.

Nono that's not what I meant (on the first part). What I meant is: I want to use an email program (Yahoo email, Gmail, whatever) to send an IM to someone in SL. So who do I send it to? I tried gistya.eusebio@secondlife.com but it bounced..... what do I have to put in order for the person to get it in their IM? And who will it say it's from, if I send it from a random e-mail address that's not associated with any particular SL account? Will it tell them that e-mail address within the IM thing in the SL client, and let them reply? Or will it hide it and let them reply? Or will it hide it and not let them reply?

Thanks

Yeah I guess you're right. Maybe someone could script a device you could buy within SL that accepts e-mails from the internets, then translates it into IM and sends it to you? Or would that be a tosvio?

Sleek sounds really cool but it doesn't work. I downloaded the ZIP file and it put a folder with lots of DLLs and a little EXE. Running the EXE gives an error. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with all teh DLLs, since the readme doesn't say.

... any clues?

What was the error message? Do you have .NET Framework 2.0 installed as mentioned in SLeek's web page?
