Since LL is acting on the behalf of community standards, why don't we actually find out what they are?

You left out one very important choice, in my humble opinion. I believe I should have the right to say none of the above offend my sensibilities. I am many things, but judgemental, I try to stray from, lest someone picks up a rock and aims it at my glass house.

Meh. Not even griefing and witch hunts?

Nope, not really. I have been what you might call a *victim* of a witch hunt, and mute worked very well on that issue. Griefing, I leave the area or ban them from my property. My sims are such that if you are not a member of a particular group, you can't create objects or activate scripts.

I am all for giving some of the powers of policing the land to the owners of the land. Specifically sim owners. I really don't like the idea that Linden is going to tell me what is appropriate or not. Just one girl's thoughts though...

I agree. Since "none of the above" was no option, I picked "witch hunts" instead. But in my opinion, people should feel free to do whatever they want, either on their own land or in sims where it doesn't violate the rules set up by the sim owner. If they find a witch who likes to be hunted, they can even stage a consensual witch hunt for all I care :)

Yeah I went for witch hunt as well. I just purchased a sim to create an adult RP area that has some very dark basis behind it and I am told to go read the blog because LL just decided to act like they have the right to judge what is offensive and what isn't.

In my opinion, if you do not like the content provided on my PRIVATE ISLAND.. then you can just TP your offended ass out and not return. If LL decides to take this uppity prudish approach with people who pay them for private land at the cost of 300$ a month for each island.. LL will quickly find themselves losing money hand over fist.

I pay for the right to have the content I chose on my land. If I wanted Big Brother breathing down my neck, I'd have voted for George Bush :P

All LL did was prove how spineless they have become to corporate money and moral peer pressure. Way to give in to the school yard bully LL, why don't you just hand them your lunch money now and go run off in a corner to cry.

People who judge other people and try to force their own views down other peoples throats make me sick. I'm a US Veteran and i'm sorry but for those of you in the US.. that freedom you are waving around to judge people and look down your noses at them.. was put in place on the backs and blood of vets like me and we really don't appreciate you abusing it like this. I've earned the right to be a kinky mofo and I'll continue to be a kinky mofo because ITS NOT ILLEGAL. When you show me a law that says I can't be a kinky mofo.. I'll stop. Until then, get out of my business and my bedroom LL. I may be kinky but I don't enjoy people watching :P

Interesting poll.
But LL claims to know what the community standards are already...

I think you can vote "none of the above" by ticking none of tthe boxes.

But I voted killing, griefing and witch hunts.

Hopefully we will soon have an SL without guns :)

O, by the way...
I feel offended by the color blue.
Can we please ban that too? :)

Can you add Word-Play to the list please?

"Keeping Second Life Safe, Together"
I find LL's playing with the meaning of the term 'safe' to be grossly offensive.
I also find their mis-use of the term 'together' to be offensive.

On the other hand, maybe LL have realised that Age Verification would simply be a horrendeously complex operation that could not achieve its stated goal, while at the same time negatively impacting sign-ups by a rich variety of minds.
So now the plan is to do away with the need for verification or parcel categories by simply turning SL into Disneyland.

Second Life - Your World. No Imagination.

PS:
OK, perhaps a tad over the top. I'm absolutelydelighted to have a place that allows me to create and share things that I couldn't possibly create in RL - or perhaps even on the Net without significantly increased costs.
I'm gob-smacked with admiration for what LL have done in producing SL as a platform

I wouldn't *really* miss the genuinely 'Adult' bits, even though they are good for a buzz or even a good belly-laugh at times - sometimes a whole new meaning for 'penetrative sex' :)
However, I'm deeply saddened by the 'hung-like-tic-tacs' way that LL is dealing with issues that are pervasive on the Net as a whole. I'm sickened by the way that LL communicates(?) with us. No leadership - No vision - No 'Together' - Just capitulation to whatever wind blows.
I seems that if we wish to stay and create in SL, then we have to do so in the knowledge that we will be doing so in a spiritually-impoverished New Speak autocratic society.

Anyone got a 'book-burning' animation?

by the way... LL would you mind possibly getting off your lazy bums and figuring out why I've crashed 9 times in the last hour instead of watching what I do in the bedroom? I just crashed YET AGAIN and I'm getting damn sick of paying to be treated like ass.

Exactly if someone griefs me I should be free to stalk them for weeks and orbit them at every opportunity anywhere I can find them :)

If someone griefs you, you should be free to freeze, eject and ban them from your land. You already are. If property damage or monetary loss is involved, it clearly violates not only the TOS but also RL laws and I'd be the first to consider it an offense.

Btw, I didn't see griefing as an option when I voted.

You forgot ad farms ;-)

But I suppose that can fall under griefing.

You left out 2 of my biggest offenders in SL
RL Corporations and Politicians showing up to serve their own interests, when their presence here *In My Opinion* does nothing to better my SL experience.

I think the more frightening aspect of what is on the poll is that every single answer has at least a few votes, meaning (surprise surprise) there's ALWAYS going to be something offensive to SOMEONE. No matter what gets banned or why, there's always going to be that one intolerant individual whose not going to like something you're doing.

The line in the sand keeps getting pushed back. It's sad and its frightening.

I voted all. If you're going to draw an arbitrary line in what is acceptable expression among mature adults, then that line may be placed anywhere. We're all offenders because someone is bound to be offended, so bring on the jackboots.

Griefing and witch hunts. The rest of it doesn't bother me at all as long as it's not taking place on my front lawn. I would have added proselytizing to the list.

I don't think the issue is so much what offends "us" as what looks bad to big companies in SL. It really doesn't matter what residents think about this subject. I also don't think much will come of all of this. It's just LL's way of covering their butts.
