If at any time any of us feel that the service isn't worth what we're paying, we're free to stop using it, and as a result, stop paying for it. The "buying a product" analogy is a false one because that's not what any of us are doing. We're subscribing to a service that we can terminate at any time. Not that I don't think there are plenty of good reasons to feel frustrated, but I'm not sure what purpose this thread serves. If you're that unhappy, simply cancel your subscription. Problem solved.

I can't quit...my avatar is frozen between two tp ports with his missing image head stuck in a rotating ad for porn.
And the purpose of this thread is to fix the lag through passive-aggressive whining. _____________________

Believe me, there are issues that I'm pretty strident about, but random jabs won't help anyone.
Not you, not me, not the Company, not really anybody. Best to be clear, civil and plain, and see what we can all do together. _____________________

I routinely Buy a Product that doesn't work, and i never think to return them Demanding a refund. They are Called Lottery tickets.
![]() Raymond, NOTHING is Perfect. Buy a Car, it needs Gas, Oil, belts and hoses break, and occasionally it won't start. Buy a Computer, i Guarantee you at one time or another you are going to need Tech support for the Hardware, Or software. Go to ANY Other On Line game, or world, and you May not find all the same problems you find in SL, But you WILL find a whole roster of problems Unique to Each program, and None of them can, or will provide the options, or freedoms you get in SL, Not even Close. If your expecting perfection from ANY product you Buy, Forget it. If you aren't satisfied with any product you are buying, Stop Buying it, That is the Best way to register your dissatisfaction. Chip, I own at least three of your excellent skins and I don't know how many clothing items. But, I just cannot let this go without my input. The point of the OP is simple. There is next to no customer service in SL. I'm absolutely sure you gain more than you loose in this virtual world.............but you are one of the lucky ones. Most come here to play...........they go to places and spend lindens to people like you for a product (in your case a product well worth the expense) but sometimes have problems.............and there is almost no solution. Yeah we can leave..........but all we all are asking for is help. Linden Labs does not provide that help. So our only recourse is to leave? Is that acceptable to you? God, I hope not..............you are one of the very best creators on SL. Some of us want SL be better..............but without some LL support it will never happen. Sorry, can't support you stance. |

I think he is talking about the state of the US government in the last 7 years
![]() Anyways, as for the topic, LL has announced some major planned changes that could vastly improve the scalability and quality of the SL experience. This huge population boom is still very recent relatively speaking, and what we are experiencing is growing pains while LL gets the resources and tools to handle the load. |

My problem is I paid for a different product (sorry, service) than the one I get when I log on today. I bought a fair amount of land and put a lot of time and money into making it look nice for myself and any other residents who what to tp in. Now the objects take forever to rez and I can't fly across the sim or delete something from my inventory without crashing. So I'm frustrated.
As soon as they fix the performance issues, or show that it's their top priority, I will delete this thread. _____________________

And Peggy..
I would not discount the validity of any of your statements. I've said in other threads that they are perfectly valid. They're just as valid here. But Chip is right, and it's not difficult at all to reconcile both of your points of view. Second Life is not a "product" that comes with any guarantee of fitness for a particular purpose, including "having fun". It's a "service platform" that is still in a very early stage of development. Chip is not one of the "lucky" ones, he is one of the relatively few who have figured out how to use the platform to his advantage. Not all of us are or will be able to do that, even when the platform matures and we all look back to today and breath a sigh of relief. It's not at all about "if you don't like it, take a hike". It's quite like any other subscriber based service though, if you're unhappy with the service, you're free at any time to discontinue paying for it. But the great thing is, you don't have to discontinue using the service. Tier down, cancel your premium, and hang out until things get sorted out. They will get sorted out. Does your telephone company offer to let you use their service for free until you become comfortable enough with their support to begin paying for it again? Gas? Electricity? Water? Linden Lab does. zk |

Sadly, that is what I will probably do. Sell my land in Carlisle when my premium is up in May, go basic and rent a plot on the lowest lag island I can find. Carlisle needed some slot machines anyway...

Well, let's assume we are talking about SL here for a moment. If I were premium...aka...a paying customer; and my standards were not met to a satisfactory level, I would stop paying and downgrade my account to basic/free. This game/platform/virtual reality/hobby can be played absolutely free.

Zap, you know I love you. ![]() Zaphod is right. My point is not "if you don't like it, leave." What I'm trying to say is that we all have to do our own math, and the level of customer service, frequency of grid issues, and all the rest of it has to be weighed against what each of us feels we get out of the deal. That's something no one can do for anyone else. It's a decision we each have to own from month to month. I get as frustrated as anyone else on days when I have plans in SL and the grid has different plans, but there's more than one day in a month. On the whole, despite all of SL's problems, my overall experience is still very positive, and I suspect it is for Raymond too, once he gets past today's frustration, or I doubt he'd have put his money on the table in the first place. _____________________

As soon as they fix the performance issues, or show that it's their top priority, I will delete this thread. Actually, I think the backend stuff *is* their top priority lately. I have a crazy theory that probably isn't true... it goes like this: Land prices have been kinda high because they *need* to put the brakes on growth now. Because if they don't the grid will overflow and not work for anybody. We are at 30k people regularly, slammed against functional limitations and still growing. Once the back end stuff to handle say, realistically 50k people and on up is in place, brace for expansion. Land, land and more land, falling prices, all that. _____________________
