I can't claim to be surprised, but this is still very disturbing.

"Corporate shill" as being worthy of a suspended account...that's a pretty mild insult, especially considering that it's not a personal insult targeting Wallace--if anything, it insults the committee that came up with the title "Conversation Manager." NOT Wallace himself.

If they truly have decided to ban and expel anyone who utters a word of criticism against Linden Lab and its decisions, then they have chosen badly. I mean in the sense that it's a bonehead business plan.

I'm all for civility. (Because it's more effective than rudeness, for one thing.)

But this seems to signal an embrace of plain old fascistic suppression and censorship.

Is there a large-enough-to-support-LL customer base for that?

Well, I don't know how many posts other than Brenda's were deleted, or what they said. It struck me as Blue just losing patience, so mentioning the club that always lurks behind the curtain.

The thread is a complete train wreck, and it's supposed to be welcoming the poor guy on board. (Even if he has been around the block enough in SL to not take it personally). I could see, if I were Blue, being embarrassed enough for SL to lose it a little.

Well, yeah, that would be an understandable human reaction. As long as it's not LL Policy to censor critical remarks about LL decisions, I will gladly get down off my soapbox.

If they did that in the past I would have been banned in the weeks before SL5B when I was highly critical of Katt's and Everets denial of the events leading up to the event.

It's on the right hand side under "Buy our book". Peter Ludlow wrote the book too and he's still at The Herald.

I DID buy that book, back in early 2008 when I was trying to figure out SL. As I recall there was a lot about The Sims Online, but it was still pretty interesting.

(Do you suppose Wallace will Go Easy in the Managing of those of us who've bought the book?)




And Abigail----I guess my concern is more about the 'M comes into his own in creating the LL culture' period, as far as whether or not free expression of opinion is okay or not. But, props for having spoken up about the SL5B stuff!^_^

I'm not surprised at all either, but not terribly troubled by it. It's expected as LL has adopted the good old American Corprate Fascism model. frankly, I've never been worried about their ominous ban hammer, while I don't outwardly court it, I don't temper my words because of it. If I were to say the magic words one day, so be it.

When I read Blue's informal warning line, I was going to ask what would I have to say to get a formal warning.

One thing that troubles me is the comment about making a satement about this forum, but not on the forum. To me it's sort of like talking about a child with him in the room, yet not including him in the conversation.

Wallace needs a funny bone to deal with these forums. And people are going to be seriously critical of him. This thread was just an attempt to lighten the tense air that had developed on the Answers Blog in his intro post.
