It's quite possible it's not even in your sim, but llInstantMessage(). This is a scripting command that allows a Object to send green text to someone and only they can hear it. Someone probably is targeting you with it. To test this theory, leave your sim and visit some sim far away, and see if it still occurs. If it does, then yea your being messaged directly by it.

I got the spam too in virgin isle marina. it was from "VoG" no last name, so I'm assuming it came from an object. I checked my about land info for unknown objects shortly afterwards and found nothing unusual. I'm not wearing any new attachments so thats not the source. I figure it moved in, spammed and then moved on fairly quickly. Just what we need in sl a spamming evangelist. ugg

hm. Have you picked up any freebies lately? It could be an object disguised as a piece of furniture or landscaping. Also, is it shouting? It doesn't necessarily have to be located in your parcel.

That's what it sounds like to me...although I haven't messed with that command yet so I don't know all of it's abilities...one could guess that a tiny object could be placed at like 500m up and be able to be heard simwide with such a command.

llRegionSay does not work on channel zero for precisely that reason. Chat spam is chat spam. Scripted object are hard to find especially if they are shouting. Have you tried turning on your scripted object beacon and setting view to transparent as well as looking under the surface patch? Once you find the object be sure to AR it.

To me it sounds like the OP's UUID was harvested by a script at some point in the past and now the VoG object, which could be anywhere, is using it to send IM's. Is it possible to mute an object you cannot locate?

I'm not a programmer, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but ...
What's the possibility of some kind of virus or Trojan or something infecting my client? Wouldn't that account for no one else being able to see it? And for the other anomalies that I have described?

Slim to none, really. I can't think of anything immediately editable that could do that; it would have to be in the source code, and -that- would only work if you had the source code and recompiled it.
