"Not that Im disagreeing with everything else , but my strong Catholic upbringing compels me to point out that the Pope is Catholic."

annnnnnd... not Christian? Are you saying that the Pope, and thus all Catholics aren't Christians?

BWAAAAAH HA HAAAAAAAA!

Good one!

I was in Dallas a few years back, and I actually heard someone on the radio making that argument, that Catholics weren't Christians. (They were arguing that catholics shouldn't be welcome in a christian school because they "weren't christian).

I nearly wrecked the car I was driving I was laughing so hard.

Not surprising in the Bible Belt. My brother tells stories of when he was staioned down there, the outright prejudice of him being a devout Catholic astounded him in some places. Even as late as the 60's with the election of JFK, Catholics were not held in high regard in some quarters of the South (or the North for that matter).

I just interperted it as don't do anything that is illegal in your country in SL. Especially trading child pornography, real life snuff films or having age roleplaying sex where you can be seen in SL.
Don't get Caught. How about just don't do anything you might get arrested in RL here?

What is funny is the Adult industry is the ONLY thing that made SL.

There are not 40k people on line to take LSL scripting classes and go to book readings.

I think linden lab would be pretty foolish to turn their back on the thing that put them on the map in the first place.

Funniest story ever, and something I just thought of again when i saw all this nonsense. One time I was at a sex themed location, and what do i see? Someone with a SUN Microsystems tag chlling out in a chair hahaha. Of course i think he forgot his tag on, cause when I sent him an IM saying wow do all the SUN staff hang out here? he didn't reply and promptly left.

Well, I did wonder how long it would be after all the ageplay brouhaha before LL bricked it and invoked the old saw of 'Community Standards'.

Just one problem...who's standards are they? By definition, we have no community standards...because we have no community. We have dozens, maybe hundreds, perhaps thousands by now, of small communities, all bumping along together with (until recently) astonishingly little fuss. BDSM communities, Goreans, Furries, businesspeople, builders, moviemakers, shoppers, gameplayers, roleplayers...All mixing, mingling and overlapping.

Except now, based on some arbitrary and totally woolly ruling, suddenly Steelhead (f'rinstance) is valid, and Hard Alley isn't? Caledon is fine, but Midian City must be razed to the ground? In my country we have a saying too...'B*ll*cks'.

Until LL gives us an emphatic, clearly-defined and CONSISTENT policy, people will continue to push the limits of what is acceptable, whether through wilful disregard, ignorance, or simply by not being personally offended by the content they're producing, and not realising that it would be offensive to anyone wandering by...or assuming that, if you're in a private skybox 100m high, they WOULD be anyone wandering by to be offended by it. Is LL really going to listen to AR's filed by people who, in a less technological age, would have been writing letters in green biro to local TV stations complaining about low necklines on newsreaders?

Well, now we have a new way to solve those neighbourhood differences; wait for them to rez one set of poseballs, then act offended and scurry off to LL with an AR to have them removed, and grab their repossessed land...

One time I saw that in the distance two furries were 'getting it on'. Obviously intrigued due to my naturalist inclinations, I curiously zoomed in... only to find that it was a graphics glitch. Zoomed out.... furry hip wiggling..... Zoom in.... nothing, just two furries meeting. Zoom out...... furry hip jiggling Zoom in.... no movement.

Where does this fit into the grey 'neighbourhood weasel' soup?

Should a safe distance be maintained between my AV and another, just to ensure that I am not subject to the SL viewer thrust bug, be banned and have my possessions taken away?

If my AV can't retain it's gender, shape and other settings, how can I be completely assured that I have control anyway? Can I, as a male character, remove my upper clothing, if when i teleport my AV flips back to a female state with hooters in the breeze?

As well :)... Am i allowed to change AV's in public? Because when changing into a crow I create some really bizarre bird/man/freaked out black goblin thing combination. Should i be worried that someone else may be freaked out and offended, because at times i myself find it a little disturbing :)

All I know is I like sex.. I like to have sex as often as possible.. I came here cuz sex is sex..
Actually.. I just wanted to see how many times i could say sex in one post. Sex is like pizza.. when it's good.. it's really good.. and when it's bad.. well it's still pretty good.. My first day.. I logged in.. took 3 steps, and guess what.. an advertisement for sex.. Well sex is what this place thrives on, and to limit that is digging sl's own grave.. Sex sex sex.. rhymes with rex, vex, lex, necks, becks, tex.. but nothing compares to sex.. :)
it's even fun to mispell sex.. like secks :)

butt secks is good.. if down properly too!

Oh and did I mention I like sex?

Have a nice sexy day!!

This is what I find disagreeable. 'Keeping Second Life Safe, Together.'

Person one reports a couple who are having some consensual non-consensual roleplay. Linden lab employee reads report and says 'yeah i agree with that, I think that's how the majority feels' and bans the couple.

Person two reports a big commercial sim as demeaning to women. Linden lab employee reads report and says 'no i don't agree with that, I don't think that's a majority feeling' and lets the commercial sim stay.

Who is deciding what to ban and what not to ban? This community thing is a sham because the decision boils down to Linden Labs alone. Do you see any way the community discusses whether a certain thing is offensive? No, nothing at all. They are only asking for the community to report things for them to take notice of and that they alone decide on what is 'broadly offensive'. If that's the case, they need to lay down in very specific terms what THEY feel is broadly offensive.

There is no Togetherness here. What if a large majority want a certain place in Second Life to feel unsafe and kind of scary and dangerous? Do you think LL will back them up? Would LL defend certain bad areas and tell the mainstream media that this is what the residents chose and they will allow it? I mean does LL seriously think they can get us to believe that they are are somehow protecting the majority of residents from the vices we have? I don't see 'curch of latter day saints' in the popular places. I don't see 'happy fun time innocent play area' in the popular places. Is there some giant and incredibly silent majority within SL that is somehow ARing the heck out of the Lindens to clean up the place?

No. I'm definitely a conservative, but I feel that this is just so much BS it's unbeliveable. You seem to imply that because I'm a (gasp) conservative that I'm slavering to end all non PG action in SL and that's totally incorrect. What chaps my butt is that I have personally ar'd classified pictures after a PG search that I wouldn't allow my kid to see, and LL did nothing.

I use the mature checkbox and I still have to be careful what I have on my monitor when the kid is around.

Um, your kids shouldn't be here anyway!

They're not, and that is exactly his point. He wants to be able to do his thing in SL without his kids wandering in to the room where he uses his computer, looking at the screen, and seeing stuff even you wouldn't want your kids to see.

I'm in favor of the folks who want to do their fantasy sex thing whatever it is - AND I'm in favor of people being able to be free of witnessing that.

Exactly what was your problem again?

Toyota?

LoL, they are one of the companies making SL unsafe, everytime I try and drive a vehicle across a postcode boundry I end up trapped in a wreck upside down against a building.

Ok I just read the new Linden Blog labeled "Keeping Second Life Safe together" http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/31/keeping-second-life-safe-together/.

And just to make sure I have this all clear and abide by all rules at all times, It's ok to have sexual acts with a red animal private, just as long as we don't portray anything the moral majority considers offensive right?

Does it really matter the rank whether the animal is a Private or General?

That should've been their blog's headline. "Keeping Second Life Safe, for our commerical sponsors"

And the rest of it should read...

The diversity of things to see and do within Second Life is almost unimaginable, but our commercial sponsors and the mainstream media has made it clear to us that certain types of content and activity are simply not acceptable in any form.

Who gets to define what is broadly offensive?

Do the dyslexic get to AR offensive broads?

Is SL sex offensive?

Is having an orgasm online offensive?

Anyone want to bet this new standard won't last?
