I am new and I have confession. I am addicted to prims, I want more and more. Are you addicted to acquiring and consuming more and more prims? Is it ruining your ablity to budget your first life finaces? Was it something you had at first and was able to manage? Is there a cure for Prim Addiction? How did you control if you did your need to consume virtual land for the prims? If not, how are you dealing with it. I am not sure if this right place to post this but it something as new resident that I have been dealing with wondering if others are affected with it too.

I was wondering about that. I guess those who don't have it are non-builders and the sl homeless possibly.

I just rented a 8048 plot (more prims! prims prims!), and I spend more time and money with SL than I spend with my RL family. but I don't think I have a problem either .

FD Sparks wonder what prim addict recovery Sim clinic would be like. Would the requirement be to get rid of your premium account, cut up the bank cards, and to sell all virtual land you own to some land baron as part of the therapy process thus becoming homeless? I would really miss my land, I dislike the clutter and confusion of the sandboxes.

Ah yes, pim addiction.
When I first signed up for SL I was immediately hooked -- but I was new to the entire concept of online "gaming" and felt that anything more than a premium membership and a starter fund of US$25.00 was a frivolous expense.
But then I couldn't find First Land that I liked and I did find a wonderful mountainside parcel. It was a considerably more expensive than First Land, but it was so damn pretty! So, okay, I splurged and bought that. Happy happy!
Only there was another parcel still unsold next to mine, and if I bought that I would DOUBLE my prims! So a few hours later, I finally said "Oh, what the heck. This is fun and it's not REALLY that much money compared to other hobbies I've had." So I bought the adjacent parcel and I had a whopping 1024m -- and a slightly higher tier -- but who could possibly need more than that?
We'll cut out all the intervening steps of desire-driven escalation. Suffice it to say that I now own 8,192m with a monthly tier of US$40 and an annual membership. And until (if ever) my SL businesses create income, I'm infusing funds to pay for all my fun prim-heavy projects.
On the bright side, I do not, DO NOT, need an island. No way, no how am I ever going to buy an island. Buying an island would mean I really did have a serious addiction problem....

I finally found last week several lots under 5100 that were green, relatiively flat. My tier shot up to 40 usd, but I still can buy 3072m2 more. Problem is no more money or L for 3072m2 Favorite hang out move to island . I promptly rented a second crowded small shop space just so I could have 30 prims to display things not many people are going to buy, because I am just not yet that good at creating stuff here. I saw island in auctions drooled and day dreamed all day about what it would be like create and to not have to worry about prim limits, ugly signs, neighbors or angry wannabe land baron who are mad that I have private access only on my land. Not sure if I ever have that many lindens though.

The cure for prim addiction is to buy an island. Trying to make and texture 15,000 of the buggers will dampen your enthusiasm for building. Especially when you have to rexture those prims at least 6 times each to get the textures to stick at the correct settings....

So normal mainland texturing and build techniques don't work the same way?

They work the same way, but there has been a bug these past few weeks where texture settings aren't sticking. It may be fixed now, but for a week or so there, everything would shift back as soon as you closed the edit window.

But I REALLY want to buy an island, especially after missing the opportunity to buy the plot of land adjacent to mine when the owner listed it for sale. (We are on a private island, and I really love it). RL hubby kept saying no, I kept waiting for the price to drop just a little bit lower, and someone else swooped in and bought it. How dare they? It was supposed to be MINE! So now my island craving is greater than ever.

*Daydreams and nightdreams of sugarprims dancing in her head*
How sad is it that I walk around irl and wonder how many prims one's hair is made of. Or sitting in a cathedral for my baby brother's piano recital, not even hearing the music, but looking around and saying...oh hey...I can totally recreate this church in SL. Look how easy those columns would be with a cut torus.
*sighs* I know, I know, I'm pathetic...but I must have prims to play with.
Hello, I am Elle, and I am a prim addict!
*Hears the room respond, "Hello Elle, welcome!"*
PS. My friends and family are about to do an Intervention for me...at least they say they are worried...muaha muah ha..hahahamuahaha!

I don't know how to do hair yet, but just about everything else... buildings, furniture, I'm always mentally calculating the prim usage. Hard to explain why you're 'daydreaming' at a business meeting, if the answer is "I was figuring out how many prims the conference table needs." -Atashi

I don't do these online game things. Waste of time but I was recovering from surgery and needed a distraction. Same story; started with First Land and then just had to ensure my neighborhood stayed nice by buying around me and then saw an island parcel at 4096 and then saw another one and then another one....but...
I just finished doing our corporate and personal taxes in RL...never have I been as efficient and stress free during this time. SL makes me smile and laugh and keeps me growing and learning...its worth every penny.
So, we don't eat out as much (better for the waistline); my RL husband takes me out dancing in a beautiful ballroom and we are finding out how much we like each other all over again.
I rez the freebies, collect textures and then marvel at how good some of the scripters and builders are...its hard to do that stuff...wow.
So we are hooked but we are really really happy and hardly ever watch TV anymore!!
To thank SL and to give back we built a big public pool in Hyneonmoo open to everyone. Enjoy. If you have swimmer 1.1 you can actually swim too.
Addicted and loving it

I would raise my hand about being an addicted, but Im sitting and counting prims atm and cant.
Its horrible and it never ends...I started with 1024, within days purchased more and more of the land around my parcel until finally I had to sell that land and get something somewhere else that was larger. More and more until now I have over 4 sims worth of land between 3 islands and mainland parcels. The really sad thing is, while building on an entire sim I STILL want more prims. *twitches* Just a couple more thousand, pretty please?
One thing I found that really helped was using the linden 1 prim plants for most (if not all) landscaping. Texturing is a big thing as well. There are textures that make a ramp look like stairs, that have open windows (down side is the transparent texture against transparent glitch) and getting builds from people that really know how to be prim thrifty. In a world full of prim addiction, there isnt anyone on the street corner selling more, but there are some that can help you save a few!
*pops open coat* hey mister, wanna buy a prim?

That is so funny Bilbo. In Runescape and this other game I played there is thread called You know you have played too long.... That would fit perfectly if we were allowed to have thread, You know you've played to long in Second Life when you are see outfits swear there is missing image, when you watch movie and wonder how many prims and what script it would take to make. I experience that when I was watching moving Ultraviolet, was wonder if I how many prims and what it would take to make entire color and texture changing outfit head to toe while wearing it. You know you're addicted when you start to dream about SL, and break up with your boyfriend because he demanding too much time from the game and he refuses to make himself a account.

Lol that's one of my favorite threads in Runescape. I think my 2 favorites would have to be: You know you play too much when you go out to chop a tree and are frustrated you can't find a magic tree. And then of course if you hoard pumpkins thinking they're valuable
