I like this idea, but constructively I'd suggest reducing the imperatives, especially the first one. I'd be more swayed by the arguments if it started out like "about camping."

One of the first notecards I got was "how to make money in SL" or something like that (in New Citizens Plaza IIRC). It discusses camping in neutral-to-positive terms. Maybe the provider of that notecard would be a good person to convince otherwise.

DO NOT USE CAMPING PADS!

Camping pads are popular among new Second Life players because it allows an easy way (or so it seems) to make money. The fact is that most people do not like camping pads because of the problems they create.

Camping pads, which you sit/stand/dance on, and get paid a certain number of linden dollars every certain number of minutes, encourage people to park their avatars in these places for long periods of time (using anti-idlers) without even being at their computer.

Each sim has a maximum limit of 40 avatars that can enter it. When a single casino/club/mall owner puts in 40+ camping pads, they can effectively shut down the entire sim for everybody else because nobody else can enter it. This is very selfish on the part of the owner of the camping pads. The only reason they set them up is to get higher traffic numbers in the search results, in effect making the search result ranking by traffic useless. Camping pad owners are the equivalent of email spammers in real life.

The more avatars that are in an area also contribute to lag in that region. People that camp are not contributing anything to game and are only collecting very small amounts of money. This money could just as easily be had by shutting off your computer when you are away and using the money you save in electricity bills to buy lindens directly!

So, until Linden Labs eliminates the avatar limits on sims, please do not use camping pads and boycott the lands/services of owners that use them.

Pass this notecard on to any camping pad users you see.

A possible Solution to Region full due to camping
03-13-2007 01:17
One of my friends has this problem with all the campers and getting in on his land to even show me his house he had built. However, he seems to have found a semi-workable solution. He contacts a linden and asks for a sim reset because the lag is so bad with so many people camping, and it normally wasn't that bad. He usually gets the Sim reset, and he can log back in as the campers are booted.

Good Luck

simple population limits system in place

From: Johan Durant
That assumes a direct "meters per av" calculation. However, it could be beneficial to have a simple population limits system in place, something like at most 10 avs on your land unless you own more than a quarter of the sim, and 20 unless you own more than half.

That way you will never have crowded party's or shopping mall with lots of people?
It should work the other way around: the max. Av's per sim limit should go up.
And eventually it will I think: As the SL world gets more inhabitants, LL will solve the trouble simply by undoing restrictions.

I don't think most people would have a problem with a region being busy if the people there were actually doing something, like attending an event for a couple of hours.

The problem is when you have an idiot with 40 camping chairs on a 512 parcel that stops everyone else with land there from getting in and doing anything.

Perhaps if Lindens actually cared about the events calendar, and monitored it and removed all the crap, the genuine events could be given a ' temporary override' for a restriction on avatars per sq m that you owned in that region.

But, of course, this would take effort - just like removing camping chairs. It's just unfortunate that a simple thing like removing the "popular places" tab would solve 90% of the problems caused by campers.
