Grocery in SL?

Dunno if this is old news or not, but I found this amusing CNN's Supermarket of the Future. And upon reading it, I found that Kraft Foods in conjunction with food industry analyst Phil Lempert, they created an in world grocery store. (Though you can't really order the food there, it's mostly for educational purposes, such as nutritional data and cooking tips.) This made me wonder, just what would be the next industry that seems total unfit for SL will wind up in the world? Maybe we can renew our car tags in SL? I'd love to be able to order a pizza from SL.

Although, as I read it out loud to my husband, I heard a snort, "So how long will it be before someone sues because a guy dies of starvation thinking he can buy real food in Second Life?" *shrugs*

Actually of all of the companies entering SL this is one of the few sites I am interested in visiting. I might even pick up a good recipe. The Sears site wasn't too bad either.

Does anyone have a currant list of all the companies that have a build in sl that we can visit? Or is there a way in game to find them without haveing to do random searches?

I am personally dreading "Spencer's Gifts".... though an SL "Hot Topic" might not be utterly dreadful. I am a bit concerned when McDonalds, Burger King and Sbarro enter SL... (can you tell I LIVED in a mall??? I can't think of any "real world" businesses) and I'm not sure what Pepsi will think when they show up and find a million pre-existing, unlisenced coke cans and machines... and nearly no Dew.

Where were the gamers when that happened?

Actually.... on a serious note, I am a little concerned about what happens when Company X (Disney, Coke, Sony) enters SL and finds replicas of their products being sold/given out. Will they accept the fact with good graces, seeing it as brand exposure, fan appreciation, and free advertising? or will they do as so many have in the past, and try to stomp it out?

What happens to the trekkies when Viacom shows up? What happens to the Stargates when the Sci Fi channel shows up?

Spencer's Gifts might be a little much but I am willing to visit the other sites but when they have a Whitecastle Island I will be first in line.

I'm dreaming...but I'm a dreamer...

...wouldn't it be ultra-super-cool to see the members of SL continue to support the people who built SL instead of the corporations that come in later? I'd so love to see people flying Abbots Aerodrome airplanes instead of Cessnas...or wearing clothes from any of the myriad creators now instead of Nike or Armani.

It'd just be fun. But then...I always bought my music at Indie stores...and my shoes...and shirts...and...well...you get it :p

My uni lecturers used to say that hairdressers were the classic example of a business that can't make use of the Internet. Ironically, it;s one of the biggest businesses in SL.

I'd really like to purchase all sorts of RL products in SL, not only pizzas. Would spare me cashing out and paying taxes :)

Now THIS is a cool post :) I would actually go visit such a grocery if i could get a few choice recipes to try out. The pizza thing.. I imagine some would use it, not me tho as I could technically order one on the phone anywhere from Canada to Puerto Rico and not cost me a cent (all hail cable VOIP!). /me laughed quite hard at the llPIzza entry in the LSL WIKI tho. I'd imagine there's lots of RL products or services that actually could do pretty well in SL. With mother's day here, I wouldn't mind being able to customize a card and maybe order some flowers ;)

So would I, although I any trying to buy more using PayPal, since as long as it doesn't hit my bank account, its not really traceable.

Yep not long before the virtual supermarket really is linked to a ordering system that delivers, so you can buy online.

im not totally shure this is a good idea, i used to work for phillip morris, which is under kraft foods ect

and while i was there they used to give us all kinds of free samples of cheese, smokes, and beer

while this was totally cool we soon caught on to the fact that they were feeding us these sin products to shorten our lifespans and thus save money on our escro/ 401k plans

things like this inside SL makes me wonder what evil plans they have for us ass sitting computer addicts.... hmm

course im totally joking any company that gives you crackers, cheese, hot sauce, beer and smokes is A-OK in my book

best luck to them and shure ill check it out sounds like a nifty crossover and i might be able to pick up a dinner trick or two (totally to impress the GF)

Coke is already here and publicly stated that they consider it an honor to see their product represented by resident builds.

CBS has hired the Electric Sheep to build a Star Trek sim complex, and CBS president Les Moonves said that their project is intended to coexist with fan-created Star Trek content.
