Any way to prevent someone from IMing you?

Is there anyway to prevent someone from Iming you? I was in a relationship with someone and things didn't work out. I removed them from Friends list, but I keep getting IMs from them.

go to their profile and mute them

I suggest you marry them and leave the toilet seat up.

Mute the person, as Tyci suggests. You may also effectuate the "mute" from the IM window.

Tell them you love them and you want to meet in Rl...Tomorrow.

Take if from the most tactful person I know..........me LOL. Tell them to "F**K OFF!!!"

You can mute them, but sadly, even after muting them, they can still send offline IM's that get delivered to your email.

Depends what type of ims they are sending. Can't you just tell them you want to be friends from here on out and not in a serious SL relationship?

Not a problem, IMO. Dealing with that is what e-mail filters are for.

I believe you can turn off the option to send IM's to Email.

Send him a note - nicely tell them you cant deal with it anymore becuase he wont let your wounds heal (or some other emo dramatic line) tell him in a few weeks youll send him a message and then mute him forever.

yes - but then you miss everyone else's messages
also if you filter out the email address - which is from "second life" you will likewise miss other's messages.

So - you have to use the RL "mute" button - ignore them

You can close the IM chat box. I mean close it, not just hit the "X" to get it out of the way. He/she will get that annoying message "Peggy Paperdoll has left this chat session".

If that doesn't send the message after a few times.........do my other tactful suggestion on the first page of this thread.

If you know what they are looking for in real life.. find a picture of the opposite and put that in your profile's first life pic. Put down whatever disinformation you want in that section.

I did that, they forget sometimes, but sometimes they still try but don't figure out you muted them.

Just say that if you are dating a Man, you are a Male IRL. Of course this tactic doesn't work for me because I am gay.

The original poster never says whether its a man who is her ex or not, looking back at it.

It doesnt matter if they forget or not - the idea is to give you space long enough to get the "awww he sounds so sads" out of your system so you can tell him off proper. Since the OP seemed like she must not have for him to still be iming her.

I always make the mistake of letting people down easy and then they try to walk all over me. Being a cold heartless bitch works better - since eventually you have to be in the end if they are clingy.

For example - One way to handle it would be to say-

"Look I was tired of how whiny and clingy you are. You always seem to be sitting around for me whenever I log on like you have no life. You gave up on your freinds and seem obsessed with me. Get over it I dont need this Nonsense. I want someone who is themself not trying to be whatever they think I want them to be.

It's tough breaking up. No matter how hard you try to let them down easily, one of you will end up either clinging or go off on a rant. Very rarely is it a mutally acceptable and respectable parting .. too many emotions for that
