I know it can’t be just me but has anyone else noticed that you run across a lot of @$$holes running around the welcome lands? I am talking about the people that have been on SL for a while, not the newbes!! We were all new at one time...

I have been on SL before many years ago and now I am back after a long stint away, and I like to meet the and greet the new comers to SL and I find a lot of very rude elders that will not help the new people or answer questions for them. I have see them tell them to go away and leave them alone they do not want to talk or help. Now why would they hang out in these areas if they don’t want to help out?

I run around in a cop uniform and greet all I can and hand out items (have over 5K+ items in inventory) to help them get started like clothes, jewelry, autos, etc. and have even given out some $$$. And offer guide services for free around diff lands to show them the ropes. (Unlike the other police ones you see around here that want to charge for all services)

At times I catch grief from some elders because I give away items thinking that it is going to make the new comers start asking for stuff for free from others.. Granted I have seen some running around asking for money from others, and it’s not always the new people.

Just venting

Me too! I mean, my memory really sucks, but for some reason this WORD FOR WORD reproduction of that original thread just triggered a strong feeling of deja vu.

Isn't there a term for necroposters who resurrect dead locked threads by simply copying them?

I think its..... wait.... "Banned from the forums"? No, something else perhaps.....

It will come to me, I am sure.... In the meantime: IBTL!!!!

Btw: It's "Robby", I get that a lot :)

Yes, I think that works... I will put an entry in Wikipedia about it, with a placeholder description like "Kind of like necroposting x10" or something.

Actually, I drop in on newbie areas now and then and the established residents I see there are generally being pretty nice - except of course, for the griefers in the sandboxes, but then they obviolusly have mental problems...

Earl try not wearing the cop uniform. Just a suggestion but it might help.

when newbies come in and the only thing they do is get away from beginners-island as fast as they can without reading and trying all tools and possibilities because they think it's heaven in SL i think you can't espect other residents to invest time in learning them how to change appearence and using the building tools...
A few from my rl friends are here too, and it's no fun when getting IM all the time with "i have a problem.... "how do i do this..."do you have a minute".....all this minutes are the cause "older"residents are running around here and not longer have a life :-)

Make a border around the first zone, no residents may pass unless they make a test for their skills..

As a new player I can agree with this but its just the nature of MMOs. As in real life the asshats make up the bulk of the general populations. If I have simple questions I don't go to places like Help Island where simple questions like "how do I send IM to someone offline?" get ignore. I just come here and ask on forums, ironicly my questions get answered in 30 seconds or less here when in game I just give up on asking or trying to find help at all after an hour or so. I know theres helpful players in the game I just get fustrated searching for them.

As for why ppl hangout in new areas to not answer or help my guess is they want to feel superior to others just starting. To each there own I suppose we cant tell them how to spend their time.

Mute is a godsend. I think the only people in SL who have been nasty to me were older than me - in SL time. I've vented to a friend about a couple of 'residents' who have IM'd me solely to be abusive in a juvenile way - i.e. I don't like you or I think what you make is ugly. (Non-customers). He said to me - why do you assume these people are actually adults? They're probably 14 years old and get kicks out of going around being nasty to people, because they can be anonymous here.

Ignore the robot behind the curtain - It is not the true Gaybot!

Help the well intentioned noobs. Sure.

Being curt with rude, impatient, demanding people- however, is not rudeness. Its Justified.
