Notes:

(1).If you cannot open HiPiHi client side application
normally, it might because you haven't installed the
East Asian Language Pack for Windows. You should go to
Control Panel, Regional and Language Options,
Languages tab, and there is a checkbox to install
files for East Asian languages. Check that box and you
may find that the files are already on your computer,
or you may find that you are prompted to insert your
Windows disk. If you don't have your CD, but are a
registered user, then you can download SP2 (for
Windows XP) from Microsoft.
(2).If you opened the application normally but to find
that you can't type in the password, please open the
HiPiHi shortcut's properties, on the compatibility
tab, click the "turn OFF the Advanced Text Services"
checkbox.
(3).If you cannot link successfully with our server,
it may have something to do with your firewall. Please
close it and try again.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will. SL has nothing to worry about. I'm simply curious.

I have the hipihi stuff but i can't get it to work cause of the language pack problems they simply refuse to install on my system saying something about my disk is to old and I can't install directly either without a disk so i'm stuck unless I want to downgrade my windows xp and stuff and then install it with the sp2 or something so i kinda gave up ... wont let me in or rather my computer in so i can't use it

meh oh well..

i registered for their beta a month or so ago, but the email they sent me was nonsensical and further attempts to communicate with them went ignored.

I had no idea they were mentioning me in their email; that must be why my google group has starting get a small trickle of action instead of the near zero action it had been getting.

I had no technical trouble at all installing and running Hipihi. It did take me several days after installing it to find one of the required steps, which I did by joining one of the Hipihi groups inworld SL groups. The answer that took me several days to find was, upon checking, in the original info from the the Hipihi company. I'd just overlooked it and failed to double check carefully enough.

Before I started trying the installation process I did a good bit of searching on region and local settings so that I would have some familiarity with the subject before I started screwing around with my computer.

There is an English language forum at the www.hipihi.com site with an English langauge subforum called the Overseas Zone. There's an English language forum at www.ideashape.cn .

The google group is, as are all google groups, rather primitive technically. No inline images, for one thing. I wish I'd started something better than that.

I also have a Hipihi wiki, which really gets little attention. The idea of starting a group or a wiki is not, of course, that I get to do all the answering and everyone else that drops in only does asking, but that seems to be how its working.

People have used the Hipihi page at the wordpress blog and successfully installed and run Hipihi so I know the instructions work.

People make it hard on themselves by failing to read and follow the instructions at the various sites. For example there are a number of people that report that they get get the login screen to take their password. There's a shortcoming in the Hipihi account creation page that lets you create a password that's too long. However the password's maximum length is stated in the instructions. Things often work best when you read the instructions carefully, word by word, and follow them correctly.

If you are trying to install it on a Vista machine there's a geeky sort of trick needed involving installing it on an XP machine and copying a file from the XP machine to the Vista machine. That's described at both the Hipihi forum and in the ideashape forum.

Once you get to the Hipihi beta, expect a beta - not feature complete, with problems, not a place to go and start a business and found your empire.

The English language version is expected around the end of this year or beginning of next year.

For those that need the language pack files you can download XP SP2 or Microsoft will mail you an XP SP2 CD for free, not even any shipping.

There's also another method of dealing with the language requirements involving a different approach by Microsoft which is described in the forum at www.ideashape.cn.

I recieved an Email from them but it was in a strange format, not really a language but code of some kind and when I sent them a response I havent recieved any back:/ So I'm not sure what it meant or what to do .

I got an email with an invite from Hippie High, but I ignored it because there's no way in hell I'm taking the SATs on acid.

the beta won't run on XP 64 bit or Vista at all. I guess I'll have to try it on XP Professional SP2 at some point.

I have xp pro and the sp2 installed. Can`t get it to work. I think it has something to do with my missing east asian language pack, though.

As Sue mentioned theres supposed to be a work around to get it to run on Vista, too much trouble, I haven`t attempted yet.

I was able to logon ok with XP Pro SP2, but I was headless and all black with no clothes on lol Everything was in Chinese of course.

on edit: I need to do some reading to see if I can get anything in English in this interface.

I'm of the opinion that if they wantm e to use it the release will be easily installable and well something that I can sorta understand . Right now its a piece of proprietary chinese only software that I have to spend hours puzzling over . Not my thing even betas have to be well not leaving me thinking I have to reformat my computer to use the thing and a user should not be having to write a manual just to install it.

In my opinion they really dont want people who are from other necks of the woods to use it or test it.

having done other betas usualy the beta distributor makes a few instructions and gives a few links and direction how to use the thing. Right now with its difficulty in getting it to run it looks like a worse option then second life and has a long long way to go to meet or exceed the second life platform and client software.

I am not sure why they need all my personal info like that, I refuse to give that much info. If they want to know what schooling I have to play a game, then I don't belong there.

Joined a few months ago, but it wouldn't play well with my dual English/Japanese IME settings .. even when I tried to add Chinese support. Not being prepared to screw up my existing keyboard/language configuration by dumping Japanese in favour of Chinese, I gave up on HiPiHi altogether.

With the information Sue has pointed to, its not as hard as you would think to access Hipihi. The blacked out and headless thing is a matter of not having the language settings adjusted correctly. I was able to adjust mine without the cd because the east asian language pack was already on my system. So it was just a matter of ticking the right boxes in control panel---regional languages.
I have to say, I am impressed with Hipihi. its true it is an infant world as yet. But did you know you can do things like texture the ground itself?
The water too is very pretty.

i guess a chinese person who only understands chinese must experience the same kind of comprehension problem with english, that i found trying to log on to hipihi.. i put in my login details and a what appears to be an error window appears in chinese.. i dont understand chinese.. bye bye hipihi...

I got an invite weeks ago, but I couldn't get through the confusing account setup process. I found myself literally running in circles on their website, ending up at the same dead end registration page over and over.
