I don't personally know anyone who could afford to throw away $1650 USD up front and $295 USD per month for something lile that. The result however would be that eventually the place would become a free sandbox, filled with everything from Noobs to griefers.

No, but I think it's been done by accident LOL
It doesn't take squatters long to find places to build and I swear they have their own little network. As an offside, one of my neighbours bought sizable land and then didn't do a thing with it. I doubt he's even logged in since he bought the land and played for half a day. A couple weeks later newbies left their junk on the property and some other random builds -- one a huge obnoxious sphere. It was getting ugly and I knew the neighbour was long gone (by the way, I did try contacting him several times but he doesn't speak English and I've no idea what he speaks so couldn't translate). I guess that "daddy" bought his kid the land and is paying tier without thinking whether Junior is still in the game or not. I digress. So it was getting ugly and since it was really out of place in the beautiful environment, I beautify-griefed his land, using up every prim so no one could leave their junk on his property. I even erected several homes to cover up the abandoned car, sphere and other junk. Some really creative placement of items were necessary. It's by no means a masterpiece, especially with the land still in its orginal form and very bumpy, but there's now a bath house, tea house, garden, lanterns etc. for the public to enjoy. IF the owner ever returns, I will know by the flood of returned items to my inventory! ha ha. So... grid up yet? _____________________

There is the Aquatic Sandbox in the Azure Islands estate. It used to be open to the public, and I used it (responsibly) for a month or two.
Whether being totally public was intentional, I don't know, but now it's only open to people in a private group. I haven't asked to join because I am assuming it's meant for their estate's residents. _____________________

You mean a sandbox? I must be confused...doesn't a sandbox have a time-limit on other peoples' prims, so they will be returned to their lost & found? I think what this citizen is implying is that all prims stay permanently, as if it were everyone's land. I'm guessing, however, that each "sandbox" owner can set the time limit of visitor's prims--can they set this time to infinite? _____________________

Some griefer groups might take it over and use it to test various ways to crash a sim. Then LL will close down your sim and not take further sim orders from you.

Most people who scrape together enough money to buy a sim have plans for it. You'll get enough stray prims from passersby and idiots even without griefers causing you problems if you open it up to let outsiders build.

I left my new island alone for a week and a group of people terraformed it, put up a forest and built a pretty good castle. It looked great. Shame to return it all.

It will likely be a very short time. Please note another thread: Yippee, gang. A new malbot sighted! Every sim griefer is going to want one of these, and with it, he can be there, greifing your sim, within milliseconds of you setting build-for-anyone.

I have left build permissions on (but not terraform), and ocassionally go around seeing what people have left before returning them.
Its mainly packing boxes for purchases and the odd item. I did find someone building a shop, and was a little worried they'd try to start trading from there but they just took the shop once built and left. I did find the sim full of beachballs - that turned out to be someone testing a beachball cannon! I was curious about someone who turned up on the sim scanner floating at 700m so took a look, he turned out to have built himself a platform to build on up their out of the way since he kept getting interrupted by griefers in the sandboxes and wanted someone quiet to work. He took his work away with him. On one occasion just to see what would happen, I set a small piece of land for sale at L$1 but set the land name and description to "DO NOT BUY - TESTING". Within 10 minutes it had been bought! I spoke to the new owner and it turned out it was a newbie who just wanted to find out want you could do if you owned land. He played with the settings for a but before leaving and IMing me that I could reclaim the land. I gave him his L$1 back. Matthew |

Of course! What's the standard time on popular sandboxes like Cordova or whatever? Last time I was in a sandbox, there was a big notice saying that they purge the entire parcel every 12 hours, at 3 am and 3 pm. _____________________

There's a lot of land like this always lying around.
I've had it happen, when I've been very busy sometimes noobs would discover a new sim I just didn't have time to quite get to yet. Basically it looks like Mainland inside of a few days - maybe a shade worse but not much. Now, when I know it will be a bit before I can sort things I *intentionally* sandbox a new sim, and announce it - usually people have a lot of fun with it for a few days. ![]() _____________________

Buy a sim, make it open to build by anyone, and see what happens... Don't argue about why? i just want to know if anyone has... Yes it has been done but on a smaller scale at 'Missing Beckett' - much to my frustration. 'Missing Beckett is a rather nice little coastal area with a couple of coves and a palm covered hill. I intended to buy several of the plots - if not all - but was waiting on acquiring all the Lindens I needed (a couple of days). You've guessed it, I logged in yesterday and found a dirty great 'free sandbox ' floating just off shore. Shame for the land seller really because they missed out on me buying every last plot - which now remain unsold. With the sandbox ruining the scenery I'm now looking elsewhere. As far as I can make out the sandbox is free for anyone to use. |

There are a few privately owned sandboxes, I believe furnations supports one, though i don't think it is an entire sim. I have also heard of one for developing and testing "Adult novelties" I was told the sim a long time ago, I'm not even sure if it is still operating.
They are out there, Just look around. Angel. |

Perre, I don't get your reasoning.
If you buy it, and it transfers the objects to you, you can take the mess away and leave the good stuff. All you have to do is click a few buttons to remove everything not owned by you, which would mean everything that was not the original scenery. You then set it to "no build". Problem solved. Do you think you have to leave all the junk there? I would never let this stop me from buying a good plot of land. |
