we do see them though. the only one we dont see is the directly in front of us. but we see the one behind, the ones beside it, etc. From: AWM Mars I placed a row of 10mtr high prims along the border of one of our plots, used a nice treeline texture to make it look like a forest outlook on my side, the opposite sides I put a totally clear texture, so unless you are inside my plot, you dont see them at all.

From: Mykyl Nordwind Hmmmm. I am guilty of placing large tree backdrops and hedges to block the view of the rotating ads myself, and had not considered that they might be offensive too, though I would rather see a longer view than my own "walls".
I will remove them tonight, but I would really like to hear more suggestions about what people do in this case. The semi-alpha seems like it might be a good idea. I will have to try that and see how it looks.
More ideas anyone? (Sorry, I cannot afford the 9,999L they are asking for the 16 sqm plot!)
And thank you, OP, for bringing this to my attention. They are not offensive to me. You can make them transparent on the side facing the ad and opaque facing you so your neighbors will be able to see thru them. Any response to the rotating ads is a protest that needs to be made. Its your SL too.

From: Conifer Dada Recently there has been a proliferation of ugly devices like huge tree backdrops or stacked cubes placed by people opposed to ad farms. So I'm thinking that ad farm blockers are causing as much of an eyesore as the ads they are tryng to fight. So what we need is a new idea that combats the proliferation of ad farms and ad farm blockers!!! I sell boxed goods from 32m plots made from pairs of 16s saved from becoming ad lots. To me a blocking cube on the lot next to mine is as bad as an ad cube. No the intent is different. One is trying to extort money from fellow SLers and one is trying to protect thier investment in SL.

From: Broken Xeno I hate ad farms. I hate casinos. I hate ugly houses that people put up next to my home.
But just like I would not want someone dictating to me what I can or cannot do on my property, which I pay for, I'd never say anything to them either. It sucks, but it should be readily apparant that Second Life is no more, or possibly less, fair than real life. True but it doesn't mean in either case just letting things happen. Fairness is something we strive for true but I think it is important to strive for it. Some actions are based on really poor motivations and I think the ad lots are extortion really. So they are not even honest advertising. And someone is dictating to you..they are saying that you will have a rotating sign next to your chat area where you like to relax with your friends.

From: Stylee Streeter blocking adfarms never works. especialy with those stupid tall trees. the ads are simply made bigger by the ad farmers and raised to a hieght so you can see them across the whole sim.
my opinion is that you cant fight fire with fire. live and let live, we all dislike certain aspects of the game, the only way adfarms will be stopped is if LL ban them, and that will never happen as they generate income for LL.
and even if 16s were banned they would use 32s or even 64s if nessasary. No, the attitude of the ad farmers is not live and let live. It is to create an eyecatching eyesore either because they haven't a clue how much damage the ad does to the company who bought it, or they are getting easy money for the click thru when people click the ad to see what a**hole put it up there or they are trying to extort money from the landowners around them by putting something up thats ugly and distracting. If they really wanted to be successful they would spend the time to talk to the surrounding land owners, find out what they liked, approached businesses with similiar intertests to see ads and create tasteful signs that would be a service for the surrounding landowners and good for the companies advertised. But that would be work.

From: Stylee Streeter lol. and why woudl they do that?? adfarms are part of the game. if ll didnt want them they would abolish them They will eventually. They are such a turn off to SL and the money people invest here that something will be done. That is why the ads are banned on Estates. And the people who put them up haven't learned a thing about biz and how to be successful. Just how to rip off in the short term. What a waste...they could be making ties in the community rather than burning bridges.

Any response to the rotating ads is a protest that needs to be made. Its your SL too. I have put up forest panels that make a uniform look to my area. I have made them clear on the outside, so that everyone else can look in and see my beautiful forests and gardens, and phantom so they can fly right on in to visit. But from my side, I see a beautiful Washington rain forest instead of all the crap in the adjacent sim. Best of both worlds that way. I only see beauty, and the outside world sees my beauty and is welcome to fly right in and visit without any obstructions whatsoever. Who knows, maybe that's one more person I've converted to the cause, by letting them visit my little corner of SL. And when I put up trees to block ads, I make sure it is as tasteful as possible, and not creating a new eyesore of a different type. But if it's explicit sex stuff, I say even a brick wall is better than looking at that crap.

Keith Extraordinaire (I think the shop is KX Designs) makes these 'blight be gone' screens that have tree-lined textures on one side but are alpha (transparent) on all others- so if you have them around your land and you're standing on your land all you see are the trees, but people outside the lot don't even know the screen's there.
I don't like picture walls, personally, but I think that's an acceptable compromise.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.
