AO:Animation Ovreride. It replaces the default Avatar animations with new ones.

Scripted items, chairs, poseballs etc, usually won't fuction properly with AO's on, something to do with animation priority.

our default linden animations such as our walks, make us look... as i've read one person describe, walk like a drunken chicken. An AO replaces some or all of the default Linden animations, with ones of your own chosing. This way you can walk naturally, or stand more naturally, etc. Men get more masculine walks, Women get more feminine walks. Then there are the sits, stands, how we fly, how we land, etc, etc.

As Brenda said, the AO can override many things, so people use the AO Off to turn it off before they sit, or whatever. For example, if you get on a dance ball, and your AO is on, within a few moments, it will override the dance animation and replace it with what it thinks you should have.

When you see people saying AO ON/OFF, these are the cheap AO's; The ones that lag the area because they listen on channel 0 (open chat). Better Quality AO's accept their commands on other channels (I confess I have one of the cheap ones, and have no plans to give it up).

May I ask where one can find a normal female walk , vs. the newbie one that makes her appear as though she has something lodged in her posterior?

Many animation dealers sell them, some shoe makers include them in thier products:YukaShoes for example, and there are freebies available at the various freebie distributors.

There are 2 very nice ones that are freebies, one was created by the master animator Ulrika, and given out free to all of SL. That one has a tad too much swivel in the hip for my taste. The other... I can't recall who made it, but if you IM me, i'll send you a copy this evening when I log in. This is the one i use in my own AO.

Now for paid animations... Abrimations (pardon my poor spelling) does a nice one, as does Lost Dog.

You can browse a bunch of AO's all together at a site like:
http://www.slexchange.com

Just choose the "marketplace" tab up top and then navigate over to animations etc.

I LIKE walking like a drunken chicken, actually. And since I frequently end up with a shoe in my butt after teleporting, it kinda fits. The free sexy walk looks a little too blond-bling-Barbie-ish to me.

But I have been thinking about getting an AO so I can have a superhero take off and landing.

So, when you purchase an AO.....
03-28-2007 14:05
do you have to say a command to make it work, or will it just work with your avatar without needing a command? *smiles blondly*

You need to wear it and then either type a chat command or press a HUD 'button,' depending on what kind you have.

Tala,
once the AO is turned on, it remains on until you turn it off. This is useful when you walk into no script areas because being already an active script, it remains functioning.

Annabelle,
There are several different versions of free walks out there. Some (most actually) are not very good, and these are the ones i tend to see in the freebie boxes. The 2 good ones, and like i said one has a bit too much hip sway, are not generally found. But they were given away free by their creators, just not with the freebie boxes one usually finds. I found them at stores associated with those creators.

*COUGH cough ohoo scuse me *

Anyway, even though it's a little on the pricey side, I think the best AO device is the Huddles Deluxe. The best female stand set is the full package by Nephiline Protaganist, but that's just my preference.

The Huddles Deluxe though .. it does ... everything! I just can't believe how much stuff you can pack in there.

I added a bunch of stuff to my ZHAO, but it's been the Reverie (with Torrid walk) as the basis for almost as long as I've had any kind of AO.

LL intended us all to walk like ducks, and some of us don't follow that flock. :p

there's been a lot about ducks lately ... are they coming onto fashion?

if it looks like a duck .. and walks like a duck .. and it sounds like a duck ...

.. chances are that it doesn't have an AO ;)

just to add an example of why you'd want to turn off ao, if you have a sit pose in your ao and sit on a chair that has a sit pose built in (like lounging back on a sofa) it might be rotated and positioned differently to accomodate for the custom pose, so when youre sitting pose takes over it might look like you're half inside the couch and facing the wrong way.

for sitting on an object without a built in sit, you can leave the ao on.

You are excused. I understand that a new RP medical facility has opened up in SL. You might want to see them about that cough. :)

Perhaps you were unclear that i was referring to the animation, not the AO or HUD. The walk animation i like best, which was given away free by Ulrika Zugzwang and made by her, is her "Slow Sexy Walk" animation. Her "Sexy Walk" Animation is faster than the Slow Sexy and IMHO has a bit too much hip swing for my taste.

I've looked at the walk in the Huddles, and still prefer Ulrika's. I built my own AO, using the Franimation 1.8. I searched throughout SL trying out various animations, and bought those i wanted to add to mine. In the case of the Walk... Ulrika's was my preference.

Where can I get this animation package - I have tried a search but with no luck!
