My inventory has been stripped while I slept. I woke up to find I have no landmarks, no notecards, all the animations I made and bought are gone, all the animated butterflies I made are gone and ALL my textures I uploaded and the TRU ones I bought are gone ... and thats just what I can see at a glance. So many empty folders :(
I cant seem to see how to contact Linden Labs about this, does anyone know? They used to have inworld help which is gone and we used to be able to email them but I cant even see that on the site now.
Oh, yes I have tried relogging - I made my discovery about my inventory yesterday and hoped it was a glitch but today it is still empty - amazing how you dont miss something til its gone.

Did you clear your cache? There is an outside chance that will solve the problem. Otherwise it seems there is a Bunker Mentality over at LL right now. Something is up I suspect.

Right, now we have the 'Support Portal.' You can submit a ticket or if you are a premium account, you can talk to a Linden during business hours... Emails are sooo last year apparently, same for actual communication with the company.

This totally does suck for you! You have my sympathy, for whatever good that does you!

I feel for you too...

I know what you mean... I found today that several thousand Lindens worth of weaponry, shields, special props, etc. that I keep in a single folder for use by multiple avs was just EMPTY, including the subfolders within it... nust nothing there but empty folders. And as you way, no LEGITIMATE way to contact LL... oh, sure, there's the "PORTAL".... ooooh, the mysterious portal.... more like a BLACK HOLE... all our concerns go in... NOTHING comes out... I'm so disgusted right now I could &#^$ bricks....

I hope your personal creations return to you somehow... that would be even worse to lose than purchased items, not that EITHER one is acceptable...

Try this..

This probably isn't it but might as well try, right? Sometimes the inventory can take a while to load; have you tried typing a random letter into the search box and waiting until it fetched the entire inventory? I've had times when it's appeared that I just had empty folders when it was just that they hadn't loaded yet.

I hope that's all it is. If my entire inventory went missing I'd probably quit, or never spend a cent again and just use freebies.

Did you clear your cache?
An important addition is to relog into a quiet, lag- and problemfree sim. You can clear your cache and just relog, but if the sim you're on happens to have an asset server connection problem then you won't get a complete refresh.

Edit menu / Preferences - General and check "Show Start Location" and Network - Clear Cache and then close SL

When you open SL again you'll notice you have an extra space to type in a sim to connect to directly (useful for some login problems as well). Try: Hahne

It's a full water sim with no prims and is hosted in SF so that will rule out any Texas problems as well. Open your inventory and just type anything random into the search bar, and wait for it to stop saying "Fetched" before actually browsing around.

If you notice any grid problems (friends list won't come up all the way), or your L$ balance will say "Loading", or Search isn't working then you might not get a full fetch either.

Also, you might repeat the clear-cache-relog a few times. I've seen cases where it didn't work at first but did after a few attempts. Can't explain why, but it is worth not giving up on.

I cleared my cache and relogged - no joy :(
I am in tears, all those hours of animating prims lost, and not a single animation or pose to be found anywhere in my inventory. As a builder with a store you can imagine how devastating this is - thousands of Lindens worth of textures and uploads all gone. God even Puppeteer and Animaker have vanished!
I dont live in America so phoning Lindens is NOT an option, how dare they take away contact via email, they want me to pay to be put on hold?
Sorry guys, at least now I know why I couldnt find anything except a phone number for them - and I've been told that the ticket system is a joke - on us :(
Thanks for your replies ....

I did get an immediate response to my ticket on Sunday. Granted, it told me to report the abuse by clicking on the item...still, it definitely was a response that someone wrote. I hope you give it a try, I can't imagine waking up to no inventory! There must be an answer!

Mikey you are a genius!!!

We need to put posters up all over SL - clear your cache, not once, not twice BUT 6 TIMES and all your stuff will miraculously appear!
OK, I was determined ... and clearing cache didnt seem to help so I kept doing it. I figured try 6 and if that doesnt work accept defeat ...
Thank you, thank you! :)

I'm confused here.

When I questioned this practice a while back I was told that inventory is tied into the avatar no matter where its stored. Lost inventory is lost inventory if its locally available or buried somewhere else.

My understanding is that if you lose your entire inventory, its all gone. And there is no way you can back it up.

i have heard story after story of people losing items out of their inventory

about a month after starting in sl i had so much junk i couldnt tell what was what that is when i started organizing the way i do

ill try to break it down for you and others

first i never ever let my inventory go over 2k and im a builder so i always have lots of things in my inventory im working on and textures for all of it and still do not go over 2k i can search my inventory very very easily and no lag at all

i buy outfit a and its a primarily red outfit

i make a prim box and lable it the name/color of outfit and sometimes the designer

i have prim boxes i made for the following: black outfits, red outfits, lingerie, silks, shoes, costumes, hair i dont wear anymore, hair i only wear occasionally, skins i sometimes wear, skins/hair i wear all the time

now every time i buy an outfit it gets its own prim box labled properly and then goes into the appropriate box listed above

also every building project i make/sell or make and store for later sales or use goes into its own box and then they go into a box of projects im working on or projects done or items on vendors

they only things i carry in my inventory is the current outfit i am wearing maybe a change or two of clothes, a few skins and a few hair styles i try to plan things out in advance so i can put away the outfits im not using and pull out what i do need

all of the textures i work with are in organized texture machines that are copyable so i pull it out use it and delete it the original machine stays in my inventory

if it wasnt for library im sure my inventory would be less then 500 items

yes it may take a few extra minutes to pull out what i need for the day or the next few days but i have only lost 2 outfits i can remember and i have had 1 or 2 items i made way back in dec of 2005 that when i went to rez them were missing from the database so now i go thru my older boxes every few months and rez older things so they stay active in the database

ive never lost folders of items 99.9% of the time i receive everything i purchase from vendors ive only had 1 occassion i can remember of not receiving an item and it was on a very busy update night (i know i shouldnt have been shoppin on a update night but i couldnt resist)

i also have a tendancy about every 3 months to go thru all of my clothing/shoes and all transferable items and things i have not worn or used in the last 3 months i do a weekend yardsale invite friends over to sell their items and make a party of it and sell off old things i only wish the 200+ hair styles i dont wear anymore could be sold or given away and the old skins i dont wear anymore could also

if you ever need any help setting this up for yourself just let me know id be glad to help

This all scares me to death.

I have a friend who stores lots of her stuff in boxes. I used to warn her that she's going to lose all that stuff when SL hiccups one day.

Now we're losing stuff from our inventory....

Anybody looking forward to *eight* million members?

I also follow Tyci's approach and have back-up, storage prims rezd on my land. I reccommend having separate storage prims for copyable and non-copyable items though - somehow it's always the non-copyable things that you lose!

How do you make a storage prim.? Just Rezz a box, and put stuff in it?

yep brenda thats what i do

there are storage devices you can buy at a few places the thinc ones show the item name over the top of the box so you can tab thru it to find the outfit you want then click on it to retrieve the item

No, no.. Not one wit. Via a non-wise move on Linden Labs part, Second Life has grown too fast to be properly scalable. They are now playing a game of catch up rather than keeping on top of things.

It would make me very happy if LL required all new accounts to become 'verified' again. It won't kill growth, but slow it down a good deal. And it would make me very, very happy if they made it easier to report issues in a user friendly way.

Here's a nifty little gadget that does Tyci's idea one better, giving you the option of flipping thru the boxes contents and pulling from it only what you want:

Inventory Box Organizer - BLACK

NO, don't email them...write to them...or call them. They DON'T want to be BOTHERED. Sheesh, all these little peons bothering the Lindens makes the Lindens CRAZY. Just....just...just give them the money, and leave them alone, will ya. No one wants to hear about your petty problems on some virtual world GAME...God, get a life, will ya, and keep paying LL. But for GOD'S sake, don't EVEN try to contact them if you have some sort of PROBLEM.

Don't you people UNDERSTAND? This is a real BUSINESS here...not some game. And since SL increased our numbers exponentially, The Lindens have been inundated with emails and phone calls. GOD, Leave them alone so they can count thier beans, will you? They lose count if you interrupt them with so-called PROBLEMS. No one cares if you lose your inventory, it's all just ones and zeros anyway..sheesh. Have you ever tried to wear a zero on your head...GOD...IT'S NOT REAL.

Oh, so you wanna bring a LAWSOOT? Well, then...here *rummages the trash bin for a document*....*said in her best Willy Wonka imitation* Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by you, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy - "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained," et cetera, et cetera...”Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera...”Memo bis punitor delicatum!" It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! ... Don't call us, We'll call you.
