How to find good place/island to buy some land?

Hi there to you all in SL,

I am quite new here, but yesterday I read in the forums about many "real estate" issues on the main land (ads all over the place, structures bumping into each other, many different building styles in one place).

Now, if I wanted to try some building and wanted to stay out of troubles like on the main land, how would I find a decent place to buy some land? Where to find a decent island/landowner?

Looking for some tips. Many thanks in advance!

Regards,

I think the best bet is to visit the sims themselves, see how they look. There are a number of private islands that are "zoned", there may be some one the mainland too. Personally I like Caledon, but there are other private islands with different themes. I couldn't decide myself til I had visited a lot of them and picked my favourite. I am betting others will post their favourite sims to live in as well in this thread...

I have had pretty good luck with the land I have owned in mainland sims, so I would not rule that out entirely. I spent a lot of time visiting properties when looking, examining my surroundings, seeing what was there already, seeing what other land was for sale. And in the end kinda go lucky. Also, it probably helped that I was willing to spend a litle more and wind up with land bordered by protected water and road.

But the key seems to be to really research, spending some time hopping around world looking at what people are selling and what is really there or might be there in the future.

How do we find new lands that opened up? I am new to SL and having hard time trying to figure out the shape of SL world. How is one land relate to another? How do I find new land that I can purchase?

I have been on SL for about a week now. I have looked around and I find that private islands have a lot of rules and regulations to follow. I would prefer to buy a large piece of mainland close to water or road and build my property in the middle.

Anyhow please let me know how to find new land for good price.

Thank you.

There have been several threads dealing with this question lately. Check out this previous thread, Yumi wrote a great "primer" on buying land.
