From: Elex Dusk Note that there's a third-party in your transaction chain:
You <--> Bank/Card Issuer <--> Linden Lab
You might take a moment to contact your bank/card issuer to see if they flagged and declined the charge by Linden Lab. heh to get even more complicated theres actually TWO third parties You <--> Bank/Card Issuer <--> Linden Lab's chosen Billing Service <--> Linden Lab Though you are right its most likely the credit card Issuer where the stoppage is.

From: FD Spark I have notice they new billing department does take there own sweet time to charge your card and bank. It usually goes through normally for me on account end then maybe 3 weeks to 6 days later it actually arrives my bank. First time the month was almost up before they charged me anything and it was over 3 weeks. That could be your bank taking its sweet time to pay the bill also. Ive heard recently American Express is notorious for this.

I'm afraid it gets even more complicated- There's the OP <->The Issuer (The OP's Bank) <-> The Asssociation (Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club or Amex) <-> The Acquirer (I.E. LL's bank in other words)<-> Whatever third (4th, 5th, 6th!?) party billing service LL use <-> The Merchant (LL) Credit/Debit cards are a symbol of man's propensity to make what should be simple into something very complicated.

It seems many people aren't aware of this, but you can manually pay your balance (or add money so you have a positive balance) using the "Increase Your Credit" link. It's on the account page, in the right side menu under "Linden Dollar".
When you use this, LL charges your payment method immediately. Then you can tell if the problem is actually a failure of your payment method, in which case you need to work it out with your bank or PayPal.
As for the bank contacting you when they refuse a charge: My credit card issuers have never done that. They seem to feel that refusing the charge is notice enough. If I want more information, I need to make the call. On the bright side, all my CC banks have been very helpful, resolving any problems within 5 minutes.

i also have not been able to buy lindens for over a week.
my $40 tier came due today and my "US Dollar Balance" showed up as a negative red figure.
this may not work for everyone, but i tried it and it did for me:
i bought $20 worth of lindens. got the "unknown error" message. changed my CC info (to itself). bought $20 worth of lindens again. this purchase went thru. my "US Dollar Balance" went to $0.
checked my CC. a $60 charge appeared. NOT a $20 and a $40 but a single $60!
and an additional $1 charge which from what i've read in this thread, will be for foreign currency exchange.
go figure.

Also went the manual pay route. Had to do a credit card "update" first, even though I didn't change any of the info.

If I want more information, I need to make the call. On the bright side, all my CC banks have been very helpful, resolving any problems within 5 minutes. This is great in theory, but "Increase Your Credit" has also been hosed all weekend. I put in a support ticket on sunday that still has not been looked at. When you enter an amount and click the Confirm button, it gives you an error page that looks like you entered an amount of zero to add (even though I was trying to add $500). The natural thing is to try again. Each time you hit the Confirm button, apparently it's sending an authorization request to the credit card company. I know this because they called me about the repeated attempts at making a $500 purchase. They told me that they authorized the first one and declined the rest. The credit never got to my account, and my card was never charged, even though the bank approved the request. The bank told me that they would cancel all the authorization requests and the block and allow 1 charge to go through even if it had to be attempted multiple times. I've tried several times since then, and it still doesn't work. One of the things on the error page tells you to follow a link to verify your payment information, but there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to verify your information. The page you go to deletes your information and asks you to re-enter it. This is absolutely ridiculous. I had to open an account with SLexchange to get enough lindens to keep going. If LL doesn't get their system working right soon, we'll have to buy $L through SLX (paying their fees) and sell back to US$ on lindex (paying more fees). How can the billing department possibly be this inept and unresponsive?

From: Argos Hawks How can the billing department possibly be this inept and unresponsive? Easy.. it's called the Tao of Linden. Roughly translated, "We'll work on whatever we feel like, when we feel like it." Great in theory, sucks hard in reality. *sigh* I have two more months before I have to deal with it myself... *mutters and crosses fingers* Really, it shouldn't require a craps shoot just to be able to pay them!

And to think, I have two sets of these around the house! Never realized the uses the clever homemaker could put them to! As for this money thing, it is an EMERGENCY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. Nothing worse than people not being able to pay LL, or to buy Lindens. Yet Linden Lab fiddles while Rome burns. coco

They don't want our money, only possible answer. It's insanely easy for a website vendor to set up a billing system with Paypal, and yet LL can't get it done. Also fairly easy to set up a billing system with all of the credit card companies and related banks anywhere - Amazon manages it, Yahoo gets it done, even the little flower shack down the street from me gets it done on his website, and that guy doesn't speak English nor is actually literate in his own Vietnamese. I almost considered using a CC for SL and am really glad I did not. At least any damage will be limited to the dedicated bank account I have attached to my Paypal account. And LL were arrogant enough, or maybe just stupid enough to post a blog today that buying L$ is working at the website, which tells us that they haven't even looked at Support Ticket requests yet this week. Mine has all the excruciating detail - every error message, all of it. Yes, I have deleted my Paypal billing agreement and reinstalled it, several times, edited the buy limit, yadayada. I actually do know how to do this stuff. Meanwhile this ripples through the SL economy - the nice lady whose land I want to buy, sales of my builds, and so forth. That some people are able to buy L$ is great. Greatly inadequate.
