From: Wilhelm Neumann The thing that got me was not the freebies part but the part where he said that the groups somehow found a business "not good" based on the fact that they had disabled the ability to use scripts NOT the freebies part so that their little devices didn't function
Hey buddy, i think your being overly paranoid. One person wrote that they didnt like the idea of you having scripts disabled and you act like the whole world suddenly out to get you. I visit lucky chairs on occasion and am a member in various lucky chair groups and sure i dont like it when i dont land near the chair or the chair is hard to find but im not going to tell people not to visit your store because of this. The only thing that is likely to happen is i will teleport somewhere before even looking around. Your business will not be tarnished because you have scripts disabled so stop being so paranoid, id say your more likely to lose business due to your paranoia than you are because you have scripts disabled./rant off Anyway regarding lucky chairs i think they are great, but if you want them to work you need to have a quality product inside them. My only complaint to do with lucky chairs is towards the owners of businesses who spam lucky chair groups constantly to try and improve their traffic (this makes them look desperate and generally the product quality reflects this so they arent worth visiting anyway). I dont mind business owners sending out a message every now and then (not every 10 minutes to every lucky chair group they can find) but definitely prefer to get them from actual chair hunters. I have left many chair groups because of this.

I opened up a Rothberg city-mall in a sim I themed renaissance-midieval. This is the only part of the sim where businesses are allowed. Kinda slow starting but that's to be expected. I sell low prim furniture and Love beds as well as prefab period housing myself so I opened up the mall to give other people a place to sell and increase my own items exposure. Plus I rent land, that's what I do, so this was just a natural thing for me to do.
Things stayed slow for a month. Then 2. Then 3 weeks ago I put in one lucky chair and stocked it with a couple nice gowns, a little mens and womans jewelry purchased specifically for the chair and 2 of my prefabs. An L$500 12-prim Country cottage that's one of my best sellers and an L$1500 83 prim Elizabethan Castle that is spectacularly large and has over 3k just in seamless 3D textures. 2 really nice prizes. 1 for smaller lot land owners or rentors and one for high end customers with lots of land to put a 2048sm castle on. Added the words Lucky chair to all my advertising.
Within 3 days traffic had almost doubled, sales went up a little and the other mall spots started filling. Gave away a prize or 4 a day. I was happy.
Then one of the new merchants turned me onto the Lucky chair network. I put the little kitty cat box down and within 6 hours traffic more than doubled. Within the last week sales have risen solidly (not only for my stuff but the other merchants have reported steadily increasing sales) and the other store spaces are filling fast.
I never see people standing around in away mode, the people who do gather are talking and having fun. Interacting and not zoning out. Walking around and looking in the other shops and spending money. Since I own the entire region and it's 95% residential there has been no adverse impact to tenants ability to get to thier rented homes, at least no one has called to complain and I've never had an issue getting in, and as a whole I'm extremely happy with the Lucky chair.
In sharp contrast one sim I own half of has a club on a 2048sm lot with nothing but dance pads and slot machine camp chairs. The sim is always full and no-one can get in, ever. Lost every tenant there one after the other within 2 weeks after the club moved in. Can't resell the land because no one could get in to see it even if they wanted it. So basically this one little 2048 lot has killed an entire sim for everyone else. Before you say it yes I've talked to the owner, who lied through his teeth, that acomplished nothing. I've filed 3 reports with SL. Nothing has changed. The sim is dead to me and a waste of my money. I'm actually about to abandon the land to recover my tier for something I can use.
In short, Lucky chair with good prizes, GOOD! Camp chairs and dance pads, BAD!

I dont mind business owners sending out a message every now and then (not every 10 minutes to every lucky chair group they can find) but definitely prefer to get them from actual chair hunters. I have left many chair groups because of this. well then your safe from the likes of me I use them for fun I believe people should hunt them up themselves and the only clue i give is in the classifieds in one ad. I dont believe or even have room if i did in being in a group for every little thing it takes the fun out of it in my opinon if you just hand the information out just like that. To me this stuff is about treasure hunting but then maybe i come from a different generation where the biggest thing is the fun leading up to the reward not the reward itself once you get the reward its over. I had the same problem with the easter egg hunt i had people land and ask me where I put the eggs. I told them what kind of "hunt" would it be if I gave you the answer. They didn't like that answer but there isn't much competition or fun in it or even competition otherwise. Later that week a group was formed (i removed the eggs saw no point in it if everyone was just gonna hand out the coordinated to all the eggs) So as you can see not everyone views thigns the same way. I'm also pretty sure that a lot of people might hate my chair so i would recomment if your not in it for the 'lucky" part or the "fun" part and only for the phat loot then dont come as one day you may find a lump of coal in it and another day a piece of gold. The keyword being "lucky" that's why i bought it for a fun and interesting way to spend some time while your around give the chair a whirl you may be pleasantly surprised or maybe that day santa wasnt to kind and just stuck a piece of coal in the chair and yes I label it "lump of coal" lol. /shrug

From: Atashi Yue Kitty cat box? Popfuzz Bamboo make this awesome automated tote board that lists all the lucky chair locations, prizes & what letter they're on. You get a box (that has a picture of a lucky neko kitty!) from Popfuzz and put it under your lucky chair and it informs the tote board of the who, what & where.

My guess is that lucky chairs won't bog an area down as much since the visitors frequently jump from new chair to new chair in different locations. Do people actually stand around waiting for 30 mins (usually much longer) to get a single free item? No, you jump around from chair to chair hoping to hit one that has your letter on it, grab item and continue the searching/jumping. Kind of the same as money trees.
In my mind, camping pads are bad, lucky chairs and money trees are good.

From: Vale Vieria I've been on a bit of a traffic drive recently. Camping is a big no no, so I decided to set up a little group of lucky chairs. Apparently the stuff I'm giving away is beter than your average lucky chair so my traffic's gone through the roof.
But, now I'm a little worried that it might backfire on me somehow. Do people have a negative view of lucky chairs in the same way most people do about camping? I know some people won't even shop in a store that has camping chairs, does anyone feel the same way about lucky chairs?
Keeping in mind I'm on a big rented plot on a private island and I'm never so crowded that people can't get home or to cause lag.
Vale lucky chairs = the new camping

I love to Lucky Chair, when I have not much else going on and am semi-idle - and I do it from Popfuzz's mall because of the board there. Since I'm looking for specific kinds of prizes, I tend to end up in shops that are going to carry items I want to buy anyhow. I also love to wander around and look at everything, and if somewhere really wows me landmarks go out to all my friends. I ended up building a Faerie avatar because so much of the stuff Popfuzz sells looks nice on her. I've bookmarked a lot of places to explore more, when I have more cash on hand. One of my favorite activities.

Dont do that!!! Just set the price low enough for a landbot to be interested and eventually one will get into the sim and buy it.

I just had an idea for an unlucky chair. The chair doesn't actually do anything, but if you sit on one you must be running Second Life. That's the unlucky part.

Shep Korvin beat you to it (the idea of an "unlucky chair" He displayed it at SL Burning man 2006. Had to get thru a maze of barbed wire to get to it.

Lucky chairs might seam fun, but i don't like to be disturbed by those people who search through to find anyone in SL with that letter in their name... It always bothered me to be logged in and have people IM me with "Lucky chair ended on Y. i will send you a teleport. come claim your prise!". I'm usually very busy building, scripting, or possibly even yiffing! >.>

Usagi Aww that hurt my feelings. I don't think I'm negative minded, I'm just very opinionated. I've been around long enough to know of the many annoyances in SL, and i point them out. As long as the person doesn't plan on spamming people about this, then by all means go ahead and have the lucky chair. It can be a fun toy if used correctly.

The one thing I would say Vale is to maybe display more products in the same room as the chairs. That way they can see what else is on offer and be more tempted to buy. The chairs get them in, but your work keeps them and brings them back as customers.
