Rocky, you're a planner. That's brilliant. Both Real Life and SecondLife need planners. I respect them in both.
Me? I'm a virtual drifter. I haven't a clue what I'm going to do when I login but providing I logout with a bigger smile than I started, it's cool.
Yesterday I found myself drifting on a floaty in the sea .. chatting with whomever came by. It was a brilliant Sunday afternoon. I met a lot of great people ... and one asshat. This asshat upset me but I just considered the numbers and consoled myself that most people are good. Don't let the minority get you down.
I don't agree with your structure and points scheme. I've met too many people like me who just pop in, have a giggle and pop out again. Those who want to create businesses can and do; those who want to meet a soulmate .. well, treading the minefield they may come up trumps; but points? I don't want to start a business. I already have my partner.
What if 95% of people do drop out again? Maybe most people just aren't ready for SecondLife ... it isn't compulsory.
I think I test-rode your early model Rocky .. it was cool!!!

*hands you chocolates in lieu of fish* Be well out there Rocky. We'll probably all still be here arguing if you ever want to pop in to say hello.

I would assume the real work in creating a Roller Coaster ride would be the scripting part.
I think that gobby chap would have come a cropper with the scripting side of things. There's good scripting (low lag) and bad scripting (laggy). The replicating of prim work and texturing of that product many would be able to do.....that's the easier part! The fact that it took you so long to develop, suggests you rightfully priced it at a premium rate. I know my partner spent a long time developing a script for her animated fairies, it eventually involved over 900 lines of coding, whilst taking care it remained low lagged. Many in SL are clueless to the amount of work involved in producing high quality products....for example :High quality skins which might mean spending hundreds of hours in Photoshop. Why shouldn't creators sell them for 1000 L per skin? IMO they deserve their remuneration! It all comes back to this infested "freebie culture" that has now developed.....its the same in the Land economy.....new players expect land to be sold for 1 Linden and to include resell rights.

From: bilbo99 Emu ...I don't agree with your structure and points scheme. I've met too many people like me who just pop in, have a giggle and pop out again. ... Oh, yes. Rocky, I was at the avatar rez point in Caledon Oxbridge the other night. As it happened, a bunch of other professors and a few random Caledonians showed up. It was rather like one of those impromptu gatherings at the Cartel Hangout. We were doing all sorts of crazy, silly things. Stacking avatars (we had a tower of about seven professors at one point). Running around in circles with the "onigokko" gadget. Trying to top the other person's nutty dance or gesture or flip play on words. Rules? We don' need no steenkin' rules to have a good time! Don't leave SL. Just find some random goofiness and cheer up.

1. He's copying your idea, not using copybot to copy your textures & prims. And the TOS says that you basically have no patent rights. You probably have no legal recourse, and it's unlikely that it's worth the money to find out.
2. It took you a year to develop it, what makes you think this guy is going to do any better?
3. I agree with Peggy, Rene, Elanthius, etc. - you're overreacting to some snide, nasty freak who is talking out of their butt. And if you can't handle the idea of genuine, honest competition, you really shouldn't be in business, RL or SL.

You make some good, and very good, points, Rocky.
Sorry I did not get a chance to meet you in-world.
My group (see mah SL profile) was founded to try to help people meet each other, make new friends, or at least not be bored on a given day if not in the mood for shopping/building alone, etc. There *are* communities in SL and people trying to make communities in SL.
Sounds like a cross between the now-defunct "Sims Online" (embedded 'goals') and the current Second Life is what you might've been after...with better protection against copybotters.
Too bad there is no pirate tribunal for those pirates...but karma, baby, karma.
May the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back. Have a good First Life, Rocky.
