Bloodlines Wannabe?

So I think I have found the up and coming Bloodlines wannabe group. They are called Carpe Noctum and apparently they have tools that let them steal the soul of anyone within 50m or so - without needing to ask permission. And like Bloodlines, your name ends up in a database (see image below). However, unlike Bloodlines, there is no dialog box asking your permission for anything so you never know it unless someone tells you or you just happen to stumble across it. And there is not way to opt out ahead of timed - if you get in the database, you simply have to IM one of the folks and ask to be removed.

All this soul stealing is about as juvenile as it gets. I keep my soul in an old mustard jar buried in the back yard.

I traded my soul to Ansche Chung for a 4096M Parcel in 2006. I use an alt's soul for day-to-day business now.

Ofcourse one could question the legal issues. Without permission, they are collecting information about your whereabouts and online times. To make things worse, they make their logged information publicly available as well. Basically, they're breaching privacy regulation and threading them with both feet!

Seriously..I did hear something about this awhile back..It was another name though so i think there may be a few groups like this running around..

There is already a website that list every avatar name and all of the UUIDs. LL has no problem with it. GreenLife Viewer lists all avatar UUIDs also.

So when your name shows up on that website -= do you get spammed about anything? If your never contacted - it is like they are just using you as a prop in their role play. Sounds harmless.

If you have to buy your soul back or be sent to Damnation - then it becomes a more pressing issue.

If some oik who can't get a bit of basic Latin right is going to purport to have stolen my soul, I shall be so cross. Carpe Noctum indeed! Carpe Noctem, if you please.

Like bloodline what RP? Most of the ones you see out and about are just being pains they are not RPing at all

No you do not get spammed or anything. Until someone told me I was there, I knew nothing about it. But, I should not be pulled in to someone else's role play without my permission. And to have to IM one of the group to get off their list is also stupid.

I think the Lindens are playing with our avatars when we are not logged on.

Make one of those web open letters and get a bunch of us to sign it - then send it to the owners there and ask for some changes.

Then i stole data about 3.8 million of you without permission.

Seriously, why do you give a shit? it's just a game, record no personal data, and you're not even playing it. It doesn't even have the "annoyance" part of bloodline.

Maybe this is 'Phase One' of this game. Maybe Phase two IS spamming the souless. I think it will not hurt to ask them to release a press release about the future of this game and how it impacts the community.

When I see the vampires out and about, I find myself overwhelmed by the desire to sit them all down and teach them how to spell.

While I think it's infantile (but to each their own), it is a little disconcerting that they post the region the avatar's soul was collected. I can imagine the ensuing drama for some:

One partner to another partner: "What were you doing at XYZ-Region on ABC-Date?"

Could be embarassing.

I'm a clone of another avatar. I've never had a soul, only the original avatar can make that claim. Let them try to take mine, if they successfully add me to their database it's a fiction.

If they start spamming as a part of the game, we have the names of all the participants from their website... Abuse Report... poof, they're all gone...

Since they expose themselves openly with their own names, they are hopefully smart enough to not try anything stupid like spamming.

Until then, unless they don't bother anyone, let them play. Until they grow up and get tired of making lists of stolen souls.

This is kinda tickling me tho, why does everybody playing a game in sl is seen as "childish" ?

Because there is so much grownup things to do? like becoming pregnant or partake in drama?

no more idiotic bite requests or other forced roleplay dialogs and other crap? I don't think anyone should care enough to complain...

PS they can have my soul, I keep the real one in a safe undisclosed location, and only use the spares I've gathered along the way for day to day purposes...

I think perhaps childish in the sense of simplicity. There are numerous excellent games in SL involving RP, combat, exploration etc. But simply "taking souls" from people you run across on a day to day basis (even if fleshed out with a fertile imagination) seems rather... young in terms of engaging complexity.

And there are some very grownup games -- Madpea Productions, for one. Numerous combat systems and engagements (while somewhat simplistic perhaps too, you do need to have a modicum of game skill to maneuver your avatar about the screen and avoid "getting killed".

At least that's what differentiates "adult" games from "infantile" games for myself. Others may have different litmus tests.

If you are never spammed or contacted, all their list means is that person saw you before one of the other people saw you

They don't really own your soul - Its a game for them.

It is however insulting that they claim they own your soul. Maybe it would be better to change the wording

Here is an idea that is less insulting and will appeal to a wider audience
- a sniper game where it lists people you have shot.

no silent sniper games, please. If someone is targeting me, I wanna know about it THEN, not read somewhere days later that I was shot by Noob Dillinger at Ahern 120/72/25.

And they can't have my soul. I'll give them a Sion Chicken instead.

It is a game for them, but I still should not be able to get dragged into their role play without my permission. Anyone looking at this would not know that I did not willing give/sell my soul to someone and could easily think I was a part of this group.
