Do the Lindens not have backup generators and other redundancies in place to handle periodic localized outages, especially in a place like San Francisco????

Evidently not. Seems LL is more interested to glitsy "features" than some big loud diesel motor turning a generator to keep those "features" up and running. It's unreal to think LL doesn't have the means to stay in operation during an electrical outage........they do consider themselves a large data center of some sort, don't they?

Wonder how many inventory items we'll all lose when the servers and data centers get power restored? I wonder if they even have surge protector plug strips on their stuff? :)

Nothing more fun than to be whizzing away through the BART tunnel under the bay...and have the power cut off. *grins*

is it safe to login?

i havent been on since long before this latest drama unfolded. it sounds like inventory and transaction issues and whatnot, and i wonder if i am better off not logging in until things settle down.

Aha, my mom who lives in Berkeley said they had a 4.2 quake near her on Saturday. Could have been a factor.

Probably not... if you are very close to the epicenter, a 4 could be a decent jolt and maybe even knock something off the edge of a shelf. But once you get maybe 5-10 miles away, most people wouldn't even feel it, or would think it was just a truck driving by.

Our company is based in the UK but the head office is a few streets from Linden Labs in San Fran. They lost power too. Probably stopped them (our research department) playing Pong :)
