Hi all,

My name is Christian Ermer (in SL: Christian Karami) and I am master student at the University of Passau, Germany. (www.uni-passau.de)

I am currently writing my master thesis about "Leading Edge Users" in Second Life.

A important part of my thesis is a short survey among users in Second Life. It would be great if you could help me and take part in this survey.

It takes about 5 minutes to complete it and requires just basic experience in Second Life.

You can access the survey via this link:
www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=NGqHmULog1kxl3rOVmbmmg_3d_3d

Every participant has furthmore the chance to win a one year premium membership for Second Life.

Thank you very much in deed for your support in advance and good luck for the drawing of the prize.

Have fun,

Christian

P.S.: If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me (SL or email: christian.ermer@web.de)

I know that you have not been here long, but a survey asking people to declare their SL avatar names plus their monthly revenue probably won't be popular.

Oh yes... I don't think about that!

Sorry at all.

I changed that now.

Dear FD,

thanks for your message!

I just tested it again and it works... :)

Maybe you have to answer the questions marked with a asterisk (*) as they are mandatory to answer.

Thanks again.

It isn't recognizing answers to question 2 (or maybe it refuses to believe anyone spends that much time in SL).

Oh boy, that seems to be a major problem...
When I look at the results every answer was accepted.

It is neccessary to fill in a positive number, no words or anything else.
I don't know where there could be the bug. :(

I removed the mandatory status for question 2.

Thank you for your support!

Hm, I did put in a numeric answer and it wouldn't accept it. I'll try again though. Maybe you could add instructions to that question so people know to do that?

ETA That worked this time. A couple of other points you might want to consider. First, number of people on your friends list - maybe you would like to ask for ranges instead of an absolute number? I estimated but I wasn't going to go inworld and count! On the "skip to" question, you say skip to 14 but I think it should say skip to 13 (since it is a mandatory field). On question 21, you might add a "not applicable" choice since some questions just aren't applicable to non-creators.

Also, I realized at the end of the survey that I was presuming inworld creation for your purposes doesn't including machinima since you asked about object creation specifically - I hope that was right!

Interesting survey though.

Just curious, but who would want a free year as a premium Member of Second Shit? I already get it for free because I downgraded to Basic! No reason to pay for nothing!!!!

Dearly Darling,

What is your problem! Some nice college boy or girl wants information and you complain?!

You need to grow up. I had no problem at all answering his questions. They were very simple and not at all invasive. I Know my husband and I would NEVER recruit you for our green foliage covered college. And that is why exclusivity ultimately gets rid of garbage that can't compete on a higher level.

Your grammar is poor! "No reason to pay for anything."

I'm getting a little sick and tired of people complaining about research done here in SL! Through knowledge is strength!

Ever Yours,

Mrs. Showdog Tiger

Yep...she would get someone on a double negative. I was not interested in this but my husband was. I don't see a problem with helping out college people either. This survey was not my cup of tea. we ARE a very interesting sociological society. Some of us are nueclear, some agrigate, others formal or informal...sounds like a good study to me. Show is known RL for her devoted charity work with education so you can't fault her for being heated over this issue.

If I would "pay for anything" that implies I have actually gotten somthing! I do not so, "I Don't pay for Anything"!

Then you won't get priority on support when a greifer comes to bother you, or when you have a legitimate issue.

You get what you pay for.

Dear Triz, dear all,
thank very much for your useful hints. See my notes below.

Great it worked finally. I added an advice to just put in numeric answers.

From: Triz Aster
First, number of people on your friends list - maybe you would like to ask for ranges instead of an absolute number? I estimated but I wasn't going to go inworld and count!

Yes, you are right: counting inworld could be inconvient. Unforntunately I can't change the question type at this stage as there are already responds on it. But I added as well an advice that a rough estimation would be ok.

From: Triz Aster
On the "skip to" question, you say skip to 14 but I think it should say skip to 13 (since it is a mandatory field).

Changed to 13, thanks!

From: Triz Aster
On question 21, you might add a "not applicable" choice since some questions just aren't applicable to non-creators.

I removed the mandatory status here and added the hint to leave blank if n/a.

From: Triz Aster
Also, I realized at the end of the survey that I was presuming inworld creation for your purposes doesn't including machinima since you asked about object creation specifically - I hope that was right!

That's perfect as I will mostly refer to inworld creation.

From: Showdog Tiger
....Some nice college boy or girl

...boy :D :D

@all others: So far 88 persons started and 68 completed the survey (about 77%! Amazing!). That's great. Please keep filling in the survey and promoting it to your friends.

Thank you for support, interest and positive feedback!

I've been lazy when it comes to those surveys, but I finished this one at least. The questions are well thought out, I would say. Good luck with your project! :)

Oh darn... so my 'Lifetime Membership' that I paid in full.. later reasigned by LL as now being a 'free account' means I can't own land? Now all that land I own, that I didn't buy direct from LL (which is all you need a premuim account for btw) doesn't exist?

Question 22 was a nutcracker, but I left out the last option there and then it worked. It hardly did any damage to the survey on my part anyway.

Well, that was exactly the solution/the problem.

Survey monkey sets "mandatory: at most 1 answer" by default. What I needed was "mandatory: at least 1 answer". -.-

Fixed that now. Thanks for your patience...
