Sara, see the Texturing Tips forum. There are some threads there about making skins.

I don't think there are any detailed tutorials, but you can pick up quite a lot by reading the threads.

There are also some sites that specialize in making photorealistic skins (much better than anything you can get in Second Life) for Poser figures and other 3D models. They may be able to provide you with information.

First, you have to look really sincere, and then say something like, Come on, baby, you know I would never even *think* something like that, let alone do it.

I have a makeup kit here that you can download and play with in Photoshop:

http://www.secondskinlabs.com/Downloads/downloads1.html

In fact, most of the downloads there are either aids for designing skins, or aids for people to explore makeup looks.

Maybe these links will help, the first two are a two part tutorial on how to make a goth skin but probably covers the topic well enough to help you with makeups. The third is a photo-sourcing tutorial:

to pick up the skins done in photoshop layers, eloh is awesome for releasing these

you will start to notice and recognize many skins in SL that are actually her skins, with some very minor changes

I use her skins, somewhat as a base and very much as a stepping stone and learning tool

Rha- I haven't the slightest clue as to skins - I am just getting the hang of clothes... can one just upload those into SL with out doing anything to them? Or does it need to be a TGA like the clothes textures? and once in- is it also Create -New Skin kind of thing? Thanks :)

Greetings!

I decide to create the skins but I'm hunting to find hairline like yours or Naughty Designs hairline with baby fringe little bit, I wonder where did you find those hairlines? I'd like to place that realistic photo hairlines on my skin. Or is there a good tutorial for it?

thanks

why is it ok for some threads to drone on and on.... (thread that should have died did not) yet useful threads like this one get complaints?

anywho to answer you amar
skins are pretty much done the same way as clothing
yes upload as a tga (or png) or even a jpg (but not recommended as it really messes up the eyelashes LOL)

if you want to be able to tint the skin in SL then make it semi transparent for the upload (I find this sooo much easier with png's than with tga's)

yes once you upload your skin textures, you need to create a new skin (so you will be named as the creator) then in the edit appearance mode, add the skin textures to the "tattoo" slots (which should have been named skin layers LOL)

hope that helps

I used to JUST hang out in the Texture Tips forum way back when it had a much more general name ( I think it was "Texturing & Content";). Back then it was much simpler - You make stuff - You have a question about it - You post it there - You know the answer - You post it there. Now we have nine sub-forum headings under that general category "Content Creation". It's no wonder people get confused. Compound that confusion with the name of this forum heading "Resident Answers" - "Where you can ask other Second Life Residents for help on a variety of topics." It's not surprising some questions get posted in a less than appropriate spot for an ideal answer. I now browse the forums using recent posts because I'm mostly an answer person, not a question person. I find a lot of questions I can answer floating elsewhere. When appropriate, I educate people as to where the best place for some questions are.

With a name like Resident Answers and the tag line quoted above, it's no wonder the flotsam of the SL forums washes up here. How much of this stuff is actually devoted to answering meaningful questions? Wait a minute - Don't answer that!

In the case of this post, it was a simple question. It got a few simple and useful answers, and then wandered off in THIS direction. No big deal. Had it been something like the dreaded "Why am I getting a white border around my Alpha layer" question, then yeah, we get nasty and tell them "It's ALPHA CHANNEL, you F#@%ING MORON!, and would you prefer the answer be thumb tacked to your eyeball instead of the top of the Texturing Tips forum? " I personally would never say it that way to somebody, but I confess it runs through my mind. I'm a cranky 4 year old resident. That's my excuse.

Eloh Eliot has made a sample of her skins available in game at Suffugium flea market. Get those to try them out as well as getting an opportunity to pay her - she doesn't require it though, you can get them for free. (Use search for Suffugium Flea Market)

Yes, you need to create a TGA file to upload. But play around with turning layers on and off in your graphics program (the files have a Photoshop extension, but Paint Shop Pro does fine) - Eloh didn't make it that easy by leaving the pretty layers turned on, but all you need to do to make them pretty is click layers on and off.

If you have obtained Eloh Eliot's skins in-game, wear/equip the skin color you prefer, then modify the face of the corresponding PSP file (obtained from Eloh Eliot's blog) in your graphics program, and save it as TGA. Then upload it in SL. Then use the appearance menu to change the skin texture for the face. You could do the same for the body, but why, if you don't plan to modify it? It would cost you 10L to upload it, but it's free at Suffugium Flea Market.

Edited note: Ignore the forum police - their posts are more out of place in response to your question than your post is here.

Well, thank you. Thank you for being the straw that broke the camel's back.

It has taken time to realize how important it is to not give a damn about this place. To disregard history when it comes to Linden management of this space and just go on and not care. If at some point this place becomes so unmanageable that the Lindens shut it down, too damned bad.

It is all well and good. I spent way too much time caring anyway.
