I use a combination of random map hopping or random word searching as the mood takes me.

The random word search is more fun in a group, you just challenge each other for a random word to search under and and see what shows up. Depending on the word you can end up going off at some odd tangents.

Last night we searched under "train" and ended up racing cute little radio controlled model cars around a beautifully built miniature racing circuit.

I give you a solid 8.2. You can come across as very pure if you want to, but inside, you're a dirty, dirty girl. Shame on you, and congratulations.

Im 13 months old now, and I still havent really EXPLORED the map. I actually just started to explore with a group of mine in SL. We are walking (ALL THE TIME, NO FLYING), across the mainland, many MANY sims.
Weve already discovered tons of stuff. And we saw the most amazing thing ive ever seen in SL.. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u230/Jokeir/Castle.jpg

I found that castle too only last week. It's called Victorianna and is in Hogback, as PG sim. Here's the SLURL:

The build is huge and gorgeous. I think it's still under constuction. Be sure to check out the koi in the stream.

I'm another one who finds new places through Snapzilla. But also friends will tell me about spaces, or I'll hear about them here, or whatever. If ya listen, you'll hear about all sorts of cool places.

Also, I recommend trying "alternate transporrtation." Look at SL in a new light by hopping a plane or balloon, take a raft or kayak out on the water. etc. Then you're exploring your travel options as much as the places you're passing through.

Mari

P.S.: here's a couple places I've been really enjoyin'!

They wanted to eHurt me for trespassing

So much as changed..

It's good to TP in nearby first, cam in to see what the activity is (ooh look, an orgy LOL) to ensure you really want to go there.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this post, but I wanted to make sure that you noticed the Search option on the SL Parks and Rec website :) There are a actually a large number of the places to visit once you use the search! Perhaps I am not being comprehensive enough on the front page for folks to get exactly what is going on with the website, so if you think so or have suggestions, please let me know here or via IM!
