A cookie that my daughter loves to make. Recipe:

Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe

This is a simple cookie recipe that will surely delight young and old. The cookies are coated with cinnamon and sugar for an extra special taste.
Ingredients

• 1/2 cup butter, softened
• 1 cup sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
• 4 Tablespoons granulated sugar
• 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add the 1 cup sugar, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in the egg and vanilla until well blended. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer, and stir in remaining flour. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.

Combine the 4 tablespoons sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Shape the dough into 1 inch balls and roll in cinnamon sugar mixture to coat. Place balls of dough 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes or until edges are beautifully golden. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool.

Thanks, Lil. I'm going to give this one a try! :)

My daughter came home from college on Sat, baked 4 dozen snickerdoodles late Sun night, then since there were only about 6 or so cookies left this morning, she baked another couple dozen today.

Did I mention how much I like it when she comes home these days.
:)
My daughter (who was her usual diva self in the school production - she is growing up too fast for me to keep track nowadays) makes her own equivalent of snickerdoodles - although she doesn't know that they have that name.

Pep (I hide them when she makes them so I don't have to share them)

Good for you dear. Nothing like a little self denial to strengthen one's character.

And here it is the birth of capitalism:

Vending Machine for Crows
BY CLAIRE TRAGESER

In June, Josh Klein revealed his master’s-thesis project to a flock of crows at the Binghamton Zoo in south-central New York State. The New York University graduate student offered the birds coins and peanuts from a dish attached to a vending machine he’d created, then took the peanuts away. Klein designed the machine so that when the crows searched for the missing peanuts, they pushed the coins out of a dish into a slot, causing more peanuts to be released into the dish. The Binghamton crows quickly learned that dropping nickels and dimes into the slot produced peanuts, and the most resourceful members of the flock began looking for more coins. Within a month, Klein had a flock of crows scouring the ground for loose change.

Now Klein is working with graduate students at Cornell University and Binghamton University to study how wild crows make use of his machine. Although his invention might conjure Hitchcock-worthy visions of crows stealing the loose change from pedestrians’ pockets and hands, Klein’s conception is more benign. To Klein, the machine demonstrates the value of cooperating with “synanthropes” — animals that have adapted seamlessly to human environments. “Rather than just killing off a species, why not see if they can do something useful for us, so we can all live in close proximity?” he said. To pursue his research, he founded the Synanthropy Foundation this year. Someday, he hopes, similar techniques may allow us to train rats to sort our garbage for us.

Excellent. I could train them to take all the leaves from my yard and put them in a pile in front of the house.

One moment you are alone, head tilted with an unspoken invitation, the next you shudder as you detect my soundless presence behind you. I glance around making sure we are not being observed and then without words I sink my teeth deep into your skin.
Rich, deliciously hot blood gushes forth in copious amounts and is drunk eagerly. I grip your bare arms firmly yet gently as I drink in case you swoon.
You feel my hands gaining warmth, the warmth from your blood as my body is suffused with its invigorating power. Powerful as I am, my head swims from the rich mixture as it produces a sense of euphoria within me. I clutch you tighter, almost unmindful of anything but the blood as it pounds with the rhythm of your heartbeat in my head.
For both of us it feels like an eternity and yet after moments only I pull back with great reluctance, sealing the blood flow with the saliva from my tongue. The wound scabs over immediately and then crumbs to dust after a few moments leaving only unblemished, flawless skin in it's place.
Your eyes blink back to alertness after being lost as much as I in the powerful ecstasies of the drinking. You turn to face me but already too much time was spent in the fugue-like euphoria and all you feel is the disturbance of the air on your face as I vanish.
Your hand somehow knows to go to the item that is now pinned to your gown. Your fingers trace the outline of the rose shaped broach and you smile as you know that your gift was greatly appreciated.

Um....is it warm in here?? :)

School delayed 2 hours for a whole inch of snow, huh? LOL

Yep. Now I wouldn't mind so much if we lived in a place that hardly gets snow. But it snows all the freakin time here. I ended up just keeping them home anyway. Both their bus rides take about an hour,so they wouldn't have even gotten to school until 11 am. So three hours in school (one of those during lunch) didn't really seem worth it.

To be fair-I guess it snowed more out where their schools are. But still it was only about 2-3 inches.

I don't think the two inches of snow are the issue, it's the half inch of ice. My street doesn't even qualify as a "secondary road" so it hasn't been touched even still. Everyone keeps crashing into my neighbors lawn when they try to turn the corner and it doesn't work. I've been hearing spinning tires ALL day.
