What's up with Second Citizen?

Anyone know what's going on with Second Citizen? It seems to be down:

Last time this message was up, it was because someone issued a DMCA claim; I really don't like it when they get used as weapons. Anyone got the inside scoop?

i caught a message saying they're upgrading the database or something like that. i don't remember exactly, but it wasn't something that made me worry.

Evidently it is some sort of technical issue. Like the previous poster, it was nothing that made me fret. I think they will get it sorted out and back to normal, whatever that is, soon.

DMCA is the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. A pretty poorly executed U.S. law meant to protect copyrights in digital media, but badly abused. Here's a link to one of many sites talking about what's wrong with it.

The problem with the DMCA is when an action is filed, the ISP will often fire first and ask question later; in this case, take down the web site immediately to avoid "safe harbor" allegations, and restore after the fact.

I copyrighted question marks. Quit using them or I'll have this site taken down.

Since the bulk of SC is posted commentary, not content, it's hard to see how a DMCA report is anything other than griefing.

As far as valid reports, if someone posted someone else's copyrighted code that would be a violation, or a graphic that contained the complete sheet music to a copyrighted song, or a copyrighted digital work of art. Those are all possibilities. But usually you contact the site first and say "Hey, so and so posted this thingy that belongs to me. Could you take care of it?" But instead they send a letter to the hosting provider, and the hosting provider doesn't even bother to look to see if it's a valid DMCA claim.

Quick reply: This is not a DMCA like i suspected. A thread was reported to my hosts and the site taken down in haste because they freaked due to the tone of the message they received. I'm waiting on the site to come back up so i can move the thread elsewhere.

Will update here and on SC when it's back with some more details.
